Putting a A2 head in the EP3
search, no it wont. It is possible but money wise and time wise it's not worth it. You might as well spend the money on an A2 and go from there.
i had a similar question......in sense this is like a mini-me, but what are the differences in the blocks between between an A2 and an A3? i hope there aren't any...... i just got an ep3 and im about to start to "DO WORK" haha just trying to decide what i really want to do with it, sc, turbo, boost the a3 stock, keep the head, k24 bottom end.......
search this has been asked millions of times.
the a3 is very limited and does not have full vtec. it has SOHC vtec referred to as VTEC-E for efficiency. There's really not much you can do to it unless you fully build the block.

def. use the search button. The a2 head can work but us useless compared to what you can get for the same amount of money.
Get boosted or get owned! haha
Good luck with the project mang.

And build the bottom end (ie: minimally A2 crank and rods).
The A3 bottom end can handle the occassional high rev where the A2 head and pistons will continue to make power (>6800rpm); but don't expect it to last very long otherwise. Ditch the K20A3 motor all together and go for a K20A2...the K20A3 is a dead end without doing a bit of work to both the block and the head.

k20a3 block with k20a2 head will have valves clearance issue i think not sure but (k20a.org has all the info you need) if you build the k20a3 bottom end with a k20a2 head on mind as will do a k20a2 motor swap.

theres a few differences, like hi-comp pistons, cranks, valvetrain, etc.
theres a vid on youtube where 2 guys race an sc ep and a turbo ep. the turbo took the sc, but it was on the freeway so it was kinda expected. if u find it, it might help u with what u want to do.

thanks man yea i saw that video before, im kinda bumming caz i wasn't suppose to have an ep3 lol, my baby was stolen 12-17-07 rip, 96 cx with a d16y7 bored .40 over with vitaras and tuner toy rods delta 272 cam with light pnp head, d16y8 tranny and performer x intake mani, getting ready to boost 11 mighty pounds on a t25, but never got to boost it, mother [freak]ers, that car pulled .98 g's with azenis! was going to be my track killa, im still bummed to this day.......but im thinking my my ep3 is going to be a straight liner, macpherson don't like those turns.........
Not to be mean or anything but a built D series is really nothing to brag about. They are so limited, sohcs period. It does suck putting all that money into it only for it to be stolen tho but think of it this way you can spend less or equivalent the money and be twice as fast as the built D.

hahahah you have no idea what you are talking about, , tell me why it was limited? d-series is lighter and parts are cheaper, if i make the hp and desired tq, what does it matter what motor i have? honestly if you are going boosted a d-series is fine, unless you want to go past 500hp, but honestly who needs that? there are a ton of d-series running 400 hp, daily driven, and all that was done was tt rods and vitara pistons, and the accompanying turbo parts, the only time i consider swapping worth it is when going all motor, everyone hates on the d-series

haha i have an ep3, not a 88 hf, lol i didn't look at any of those videos but i garuntee i have seen them all before, but yes im pretty sure everyone has heard of k24 bottom end with an a2 head or equilivent, ill be going a little different, just going to put rods and pistons in it, keep the k20a3 head for the gas mileage, keep it 2.0 liter to save on gas, put a rsx tranny on it so i cruise in 6th without being in boost and slap a nice highway turbo on it, how about that???

Actually my first car was a D16Y8. Boosted it with a greddy kit to run 210hp on 10lbs of boost, which was actually impressive because my motor was healthy as **** but that's about as far as you could go STOCK. I grew some ***** and went with a b18C1 on 8lbs of boost and made just shy of 300hp STOCK. Now tell me which one made more power on less the money? The shop i dyno'd the D16Y8 at was also impressed it made that much power. Also my old roommate spent endless amounts of cash on his D-series just to make it run 400 hp and he would only touch 330. **** gave him so much trouble he gave up on it. He put 13k into the car just to fully build it. 13k come on.. you could of almost built 2 b series with that much money. It's a SOHC it's limited to what it can do as opposed to a DOHC. You'd extract more power out of a DOHC then a SOHC any day of the week. I'm not hating on D-series, i just think they are a waste of time and money if you want power. Even tho parts may seem cheap here and there but add it all together. It isn't cheap.

you need to do some more research buddy, you trying to tell me your buddy put 13k into a motor and made 330 is bs, as long as the d-series or any series honda motor is in essence built, the power is not limited to how much cash is put into it but what turbo is used.......c'mon buddy, hell for all we know he could have bb t-28 on that d-series and have one hell of a powerband and a healthy 330 hp, and i garuntee he didn't put 13k into the motor alone, maybe the entire car, your logic just doesn't make sense.....next you will tell me that your stock DOHC will last longer than the built SOHC lol and if you read what i said a built d-series consists of tt rods and vitara pistons, and that alone is good enough for upwards of 400 hp, depending on the turbo, get your **** straight
http://www.turbod16.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4140 maybe you should have kept your first d-series........
Were you not paying attention? I said he was only running 330 hp but his car was built for 400hp or more. He spent 13k back in 03-04 trying to build a "bullet proof" block. **** just gave him so much headaches he just gave up. It wasn't as "bullet proof" as he thought it would be. Funny thing is he just got it done and he wasn't getting on it because it was newly built. It was his DD and he had it for about a week or 2 that's why he was pushing 330hp to break it in.
LMFAO.. where did i say a stock DOHC will outlast a built SOHC? Why do people pull **** out of their asses and put words into peoples mouths. It's just a failed attempt to talk ****. Well here we go with the pointing to another forum where **** can't hold water. You realize a forum is an opinion based site and posting up **** now a days, turns up to be fake and is about as common as a cold. so if you're going to keep posting up "Well this guy said this and he's saying this can do that... he said she said" don't even bother replying. That **** gets old and redundent. That's not documentation that can back up your claims.
If you're still trying to impress me with 400hp out of a D series it's not happening. Any power from any SOHC is not impressive AT ALL! Only SOHC that was EVER impressive was Bisi Ezerioha's 9 sec all motor D, other then that those motors are weak and don't create as much power as a DOHC. You notice a trend here tho on the forum you pointed me to, in order to create that much power they all had to push almost 30 psi and non of them were STOCK. You realize stock means nothing internally touched. Funny tho on 8psi with a t3/t04E i made just shy of 300hp STOCK on my GS-R nothing internally TOUCHED. If you're trying to justify just putting in viatra rods and eagle pistons in is stock... then you need to know what stock truly means.
If your ever so loved D series are cheap and make power then why do the PRO's use DOHC's? Did they miss something? Do you seem to know something that they don't? My whole point is a SOHC is not as powerful as a DOHC and going around sayin "Hey i have a fully built D series that makes a lot of HP" is nothing impressive AT ALL! DOHC > SOHCS it's just simple as that.

HAHAHAHAAHAHA YOU CRACK ME UP do you realize how ignorant of a post you made? i never said you said a stock dohc will outlast a built sohc, i was thinking that you would say it, read it a litle closer pal. and i never said this guy said this and that guy said that, i have built motors before and helped my buddies build motors before with similar goals, and i have backed up my information with another forum, your **** is getting redundent. haha saying that a 400 hp car that is 1.6 liters and cost almost nothing is not impressive is just [freak]ing stupid, there is no way around that. and i never said that a stock sohc is still stock with rods and pistons, i said that's all it takes to make the block built. read your **** man before you try to come back with ****, haha oh i almost forgot, how can you tell me your buddy built a block for 400 hp and only made 300? you keep trying to state that how much money you spent or your intentions limit the amount of power you are going to make, maybe your buddy didn't do his hw and he has the wrong turbo that deosn't have the efficiency to get to 400hp. so do me a favor and ask you friend what turbo he is using and it what psi, thanks. also you need to look up the awd ef hatch on here that was running 400 hp on a STOCK d-series, yea stock block and all bitch, next thing you will tell me is that you need more than 400 hp to go 10's, so what is with you wanting more hp than that? a higher trap with bigger slicks and the same e.t.? c'mon man think aobut it? you are not saying anything worthy in your post.
Did you not pay attention or is it just seems reading > you?
I said my old roommate built his SOHC but was only running 330 hp to BREAK IT IN. Did you catch that.. or do i need to repeat it since it appears it's not sticking into that thing you call a brain. I spoke with him and it was actually built for 500hp and was running a t60-1 hi fi. He even said himself "I should of got a DOHC but i was to stubborn and wanted a fast SOHC". He actually did his homework with a well known import shop and the block was built correctly. I think PFIspeed has built more motors then you could ever imagine touching. Last i recall they've also been in magazines have you? They've touched cars like Scot Seevers (Talon), Bill Willoughby (black hatch aka black bitch), who used to work there, Brent levisted (owns shop i believe), Steve Oaks (prelude) and many more. Wait last i checked non of them ran SOHCs either.. WIERD!
