CRX B16a nightmare. insight and advice needed
I bought a CRX with a B16a1 already installed, nice car, very nice price. The B16a1 (Y1 tranny) was hanging by very loose, kinda modified stock mounts, really sucked, horrible axel position. Axels and centershaft were all blown. Drove, but very poorly.
Brought it to Thunder Alley in San Jose, CA. The owner said they'd do the full hasport kit installed for 600. Did the axels and centershaft with non-modified 1990 integra parts. (is that wrong?) When they did the mounts they set the engine with the FRONT MOUNT BOLTED ON and the stock manifold resting on the crossmember.
The hasport bushings were destroyed and the mounts have very little bushing left. mostly metal to metal. Also found out THEY DIDNT PUT IN THE REAR MOUNT.
Over the course of 40 miles the right front tire was worn to nothing (nitto 450) so the cars been parked for a few weeks awaiting me fixing this. Tubeframe crossmember and new bushings are here, i haven't gotten ahold of a Helm manual which i can only assume describes some of this project.
Help...

OMG!!!! are you kidding??? so paid "professionals" reinstalled the hasport kit on your rex and did that??? geez..ok, you know the hasport kit uses three mounts, but the BACK instead of the FRONT. i would get them to give me a new set of mounts, find some way to support the motor (hoist) and change out those mounts..except with the back mount. don't forget you need the rear tranny bracket from a 90-91 teg as well. sounds like the did ok with the axles..but have those idiots replace those as well. good luck with it dude..
IMO- make the shop pay for towing the car back. then make them pay for a new set of mounts. then make sure they read the instructions.
I'm not having them work on it again, they'll just **** it up more. I'll just do it myself and bitch alot.
This is THUNDER ALLEY that fucked up, one of the big shops in silicon valley. Them, speedimage and spoon. Those are the shops to go to and these guys cant even do a simple mount install right. They had to know that what they did would fuckup things more than it would fix them. The stock mounts hanging by long bolts worked better. And why the hell would you set an engine down with the manifold touching the frame and think "well that's fine"
And then his excuse for having a front mount there was "well it bolted up fine, so we used it" idiots.
It's going to cost me $400 to fix the damage this fucked up mount install did.
Just found out the alternator pulley was grinding against the chassis and of course i've got no tread on a $100 tire and need a whole alignment and camber adjustment.
pisses me off.
Does anyone have pictuers of how the rear mount should sit and do i need to modify anything to put the rear mount in there?
and how much does the 90 integra tranny mount cost at a dealership?
anyone got one they want to sell me?

are you in san jose??.....i wouldnt bring my car to anyone of those shops.....if you can...bring your car to CB Performance in SF....Benson the owner(he has a 95hatch that runs 11.3 which they drive on the street sometimes) was one of the first guys to do swaps in the bay.....he does a damn good job....he fixed my bogging problem in 30min....i dont have his # but i can get it for you if you want
Shops are for buying parts (and then only if you can't get a better price/service online) You are for installing aforementioned parts. Do your own work, you'll learn a lot more.

if they are a big shop in your area....what i would do is tell them you paid them to do a job for you.........They did not do that job, so you want your money back, then give them the f***** up mounts back and tell them to put them on their own car
You should not let these people screw you over like that.....Take a stand for your self and usually it will work out for the better

So i posted this morning and since then almost dropped the engine. I'm trying not to since its just to get the rear mount in. (found the old stock mount buried back there)
I took a bunch of pictures.
The rear bracket looks like it might fit but its modified (crappy job)
There are 2 sets of screw holes on the rear crossmember for the mount, from the passenger side, is it the set of holes closest or furthest from you???
Where does the integra bracket sit?
What is the hasport rear mount supposed to attach to. A YS1 trannys bracket, a CRX's, a Integra bracket, what?
If i need parts i'll need to wait until monday anyway. which sucks.
And its really easy to get bushings in and out of hasport mounts (thunderalley guru insisted it was nearly impossible. idiot. how much experience do they really have..((bitchbitchbitch
))

Dude that sucks for you. Just think of it as a leason well learned, lol.
If i had to take my car to a shop, it'd be a local shop that i trust, not some performance shop.
The guys around here that sell performance parts at shops know nothing! They just know enough to get a dealers license.
Well good luck with your car, and let us know how it turns out.

so i finally got the hasport mount situated between the bracket against where it should bolt up. (need longer bolts) Are special long bolts included in the hasport kit? (i dont have the kit, just the mounts.
shop owner tossed it at me and told me to get out)
So the bracket i have is odd, looks like the engine will end up in the right spot though so i'll have to see.
I got the rear mount in without dropping the engine, was a bitch, lowered the crossmember an inch to move the bracket high enough to slip the mount under, sits very snugly.
Someone said i'd need to drop the engine to do it right.. i can replace the bracket at this point too if i need to. just need to know if mine is correct.
I'll take pictures when i'm done, i replaced the front crossmember with a custom steel piece too. The tie rods might be a problem.
I need a good front sway bar, where should i get one from? any brand? any width?

NikoZai: you post on SRO? go to CB Performance in frisco man
Big Pete: ive seen you post on SRO too. my sn there is newbie. what part of frisco are you from?

take pics when you're done...hasport did include all the bolts with the kit, but glad to hear they gave you another mount kit. if you need any pics of how mine looks let me know.
I'll keep CB-P in mind. Just a lil far from san jose but i know SF well so it shouldnt be hard to find. What's the # to CB, i'll prolly call for advice when i put my rear discs. i need integ e-brake cables.
Yea i post on SRO, liking this board alot. good people.
Newbie, you asked me about my friends hatch for sale, he ended up keeping it. He's doing an H22 swap into it in a few months when he saves up another 2 grand.
i'll post tonight after i get all the bolts i need and reattach everything.
I took like 50 pics on my digital so i'll sort through em and post some good ones tomorrow.
And the Hasport people rock. i'm not sure who i talked to earlier but they're just good guys, very informative and so nice.

........im in the sunset....used to have the white hf with a apexi n1...kosei k1s.......what do you have on your car....i might have seen your car around..whats your name??[Modified by big pete, 1:39 AM 7/9/2002]
you need HCP mounts. my motor bolted up in about 1 hour, with all four mounts. i had to cut off one side of the front bracket, the passenger side, and fit the 3/8" gap with washers on the front mount. their motor mounts are really impressive. yesterday i did a swap for a guy with some SHITTY "custom" mounts and they barely fit. i was amazed at how much metal had to come off his front crossmember to clear his header. with my stock exhaust manifold on, i didn't cut the crossmember to fit, but it is close. i will have to trim to fit my header, but i will also hopefully have my welder and custom crossmember made by then.
with my hasport mounts the only thing i need to do to make it fit was cut the front mount....besides that everything fit great
I trust Hasport, haven't had enough experience with HCP
My front crossmember is replaced with a custom piece resembling a one armed Z10 crossmember.
Big Pete: Cut the front mount or remove the front mount?
I didnt get the custom bolts i needed yesterday so i couldnt complete everything and drop it back down. I have the rear and drivers mount in with new bushings. The passenger side i need to wedge out today.. how the hell are you supposed to do that? drop the engine 2 inches on that side? (cuz thats my way of doing it)
