is it worthwhile to swap an obd1 b18a/b into a 90-91 DA?
it kind of sucks knowing i have the low end b18a engine with only 130 hp. now i have read that the differences is from the intake camshafts and such. now, is it even worth it to swap in a newer Ls motor, just to gain 10-12 hp, depending on which year? i know the better option would be to swap in a b18c or a 1st gen b16. is there a way to convert my obd0 b18a so it can be equivalent to the later obd1 b18a/b, such as intake camshaft and other parts?
Well theres a bonus to swapping over to OBD1 from OBD0 for sure, being able to read the diagnostics codes easier, or having them stay on the computer instead of being reset when you shut the car off is a worthy note.
Also being able to use some aftermarket tuning gear that doesn't work with OBD0..
But a b18b compared to a b18a, same block, slightly diff cams, nothing to go nuts over - I'd advise a B18C / b16 head swap instead, with an OBD1 conversion .. That'll net you much more power then a b18b..
Though with a 90 DA I'd consider a whole engine swap depending on the condition of the motor.. Mine is getting weak, so it's been on my mind a lot lately..
