Mugen Twinloop Owners...Three Quick Questions
1.) After installing the exhaust, everytime I turn my car off, I hear this clicking/clunking noise which I'm pretty sure is coming from the Mugen resonator. It goes away after a few minutes though. My initial thought was it was just metal contracting since it's cooling down. But today, I drove into my garage and came to a complete stop and without turning off the car, I heard the same noise. Is this normal?
2.) During installation of the exhaust, we found that there was about an 1" to 1 1/2" gap between the Mugen b-pipe and the 2.5" Carsound Cat. We were able to pull the b-pipe to meet up with the cat and everything was bolted on tightly. The tip isn't tucked or anything so I'm thinking that everything's ok. Did anybody else have this issue?
3.) What heatshields, if any, did you remove when you installed the exhaust?
I'll post some dyno's on Monday once I get them scanned and uploaded.

1. Are you sure the clicking isn't coming from the cat? Mine clicked whenever it got hot the first couple weeks I had it...
2. The fitment was perfect.
3. I removed all the heat shields.

Modding the car's starting to be a pain in the 455. It sucks to be a perfectionist because you're always looking for things that can go wrong.
Anyway, I'm not so sure anymore where the sound is coming from. When I listen near the cat, it sounds like that's where it's coming from. When I listen near the resonator, it sounds like it's coming from there.
So my next question is, do you guys with a 2.5" Carsound cat (besides Bob #455) ever hear those noises that are attributed to the expansion/contraction of metal from the cat itself? I hope the noise goes away soon. My header/cat was installed last Saturday and the exhaust was installed on July 4th. I cant remember if I did or didn't hear those noises when I only had the header/cat on the car.

1 - I have the same exact noise (the clicking/ticking), usually I hear it when turning off the car but if I have driven the car hard I can hear it when I stop and the car is idling. It is definitely coming from the resonator. However, this only started happening after I put a nasty dent in the resonator from hitting a speed bump

Didn't have the TypeOne exhaust? What happened? Too loud?
As far as the cat goes I have the SMSP 2.5 and mine makes all kinds of funky sounds including a ratle around 4k to 4400 or so, I think alot of peope have been having some kind of issue with the carsound.

My Carsound cat doesn't rattle at all, and it fit perfect. Like someone else just mentioned, when it was new (first 3 months or so) it would click after driving the car hard. I think it was just the metal heating up and then cooling...it hasn't made that sound for a long time, even after several 25 minute track sessions on Friday. Quit being a sissy!
I've just had the twin-loop cat-back installed on my VTi-R (GSR), and to answer your Q's:
1) I too have noticed the clicking and clunking sounds. It sounds like a few others have too so I'd consider it normal.
2) Mine didnt fit correctly (cos the exhaust was for a JDM SiR not an ADM VTiR). The flange didnt mate up to the cat correctly ... had to have it modified and rewelded (glad I got the shop to fit it in with the price otherwise would've cost me $$)
3) I'm pretty sure no heat shields were removed.

just to contribute:
1. my exhaust has made that noise since I put it on. After a hard drive, as it cools it clicks for a while. I wouldn't worry about it.
2. mine fit perfectly
3. there aren't any shields to take off.

so does mugen twinloop fits 2.5 perfectly, how about if it fits 2.25 good ?
or is there JDM and USDM size for mugen twinloop?

Here's a topic regarding the JDM vs USDM Mugen exhaust debate.

Ok, so juding from all the responses, all I can do is wait to see if it goes away. I guess I have no choice but to keep romping it. Thanks all for your feedback.
1. Like Bob said, The clicking noise is coming from the cat. I think it was from the bolts though. I just reacently put stainless steel bolts on the car and after I drove it hard I heard the clicking noises. I'm sure it's not the cat because it was already used.
2.No
3. I still have all of them.

Well, I just called King Motorsports and they were very curteous and helpful. It seems like some S2000 guys get the same noise with the Mugen exhaust. There suggestions were...
1.) Make sure the cat flange and the exhaust flange were mounted flush with each other. I told him that I don't have the stock cat anymore so he told me to just make sure it's as even and flushed with each other as much as possible.
2.) Give it more heat-cycles...in other words, break it in some more.
For the people that never had the noise, what kind of bolts did you guys use to connect the cat to the Mugen b-pipe (grade, coarse/fine, length, socket size of the bolt, etc.)??? In addition, are you guys running the stock cat or a 2.5" cat???
