ok there are three rings well the middle piston ring has a groove say like / it has a slant on the outer
side of the ring like this is a normal ring |======| well this one is like /=====\ so does the slant go face up towards the head or down towards the oil pan, plz help look in ur book, cuz my book suks

check out the surfaces of the rings, one side should have a mark on it, when installed on the piston that side should be face up.

EDIT: Checked in the haynes overhual procedure and it doesn't give any more details than that
