Default Side spoiler/skirts

Wondering if anyone knows the difference between the stock oem side skirt and the oem side spoiler for the 96-00 civics. I done a quick search and haven't found anything. I have heard that the side spoiler is flared a little more kinda body kit-ish.

i dont think there is a difference really. i have the coupe one on my ej1; fit perfect. Are they the same size even?(coupe/hatch)??

What do you mean a side skirt or a side ''spoiler'' cause i never heard of that.

The difference is the standard ones are black, unpainted. The others are painted.

Oh, and IIRC, they're actually only painted versions for '98-'00. They started being sold when the painted lips were being sold.

Imo, the post above is the least informative of the bunch.

The OP wanted to know the differences in the different sidekirts listeed from the factory. I told him the difference. Some are painted, some are not.

The side skirts are listed as "SPOILER, SIDE UNDER (COLOR CODE AND COLOR)." He/she wasn't talking about a trunk lid or hatch spoiler.

But for some reason you bring up the midwing out of the blue. The OP would need to have a hatch to be able to use the midwing and even then, chances are he/she won't be interested. The midwing is not a popular part.

I don't think the OP is asking about putting them on a 5th gen.

It would be nice for the OP to clarify though.

I called the dealer that was selling these and the parts guy i talked to said that they were different that the stock SI painted ones. And I asked "So these are a diff shape or what?" parts guy says "Yeah, they are more body kitish" but the only pic they had of it was of the underside so you can't tell anything. I'd be interested in pics if anyone has any.

And the op was talkin about 96-00.

The parts guy is wrong. He probably doesn't even have his accessories catalog from back then anymore.

The different sideskirts first came to the US in 1998 as part of the lip kit that was available for coupes. Overseas this was available on hatchbacks and sedans and was standard on the VTiS hatch for 1998.

The sideskirts look the same as any other stock one, except they are painted. Just like Si ones look like.

Here are some pics. The second photo is a photo I took of the factory accessory manual for 1998. The first photo is also in the manual, but I managed to find it online. The photo of the front I could not find online.

I just did a check. There are three sideskirts left in the US. They are all for the same side though (so no chance of assembling them together). One Flamenco Black, one Milano Red and one Vogue Silver Metallic.

Two are in one location and the other is in another location. Otherwise, they're all either discontinued or on back order.

That is, the part numbers for the "different" sideskirts. You'll get the same effect with Si sideskirts or painting any other stock '96-'00 coupe/hatch sideskirt.

watisjdm's car seems to have come with the full kit form the dealer, though by the time he bought the car, the front lip was gone. Probably a victim of a high curb (that I imagine happened to a lot of them). He has photos of his car when he first got it and all it had was the sideskirts and rear, otherwise the car appeared stock. His sideskirts looked just like mine (which are skirts from an Si).

I can't manage to find the old photo of his car when he first got it, though I saw it just a day or two ago.

Hope this helps out.

Id like to add that the 96-00 unpainted sideskirts (or at least on my 96) have a small dimpled texture to them where as the painted ones (at least the ones I got from an si) are smooth. You have to do a decent amount of sanding in the prepwork to get the little dimples sanded out or they will show through when you try to paint the oem unpainted skirts.

also the OP needs to post the supposed part number.

Why post the part number and why do you think it's "supposed"?

It does exist. I even posted a photo of what he's talking about.

The one he's talking about is physically the same as an "Si" sideskirt. It might have a different part number, but that's done a lot with optional parts and Si parts.

By the way I like you NOFX, but don't ever talk bad about the mid wing again. HondGod is spot on.

But seriously thanks for the info much appreciated. I did some more research and NOFX is right about the painted side skirt being the different part number and there being no difference in shape.

I never said anything bad about the midwing. Most people don't like it though.
