help with home paint job
im thinking about painting my 99 civic. its primer now, but plan on redoing that. Ive done my research and think ive almost found everythign i need to know. but i do wanna know when the best time to sand is. i know you sand it first, then primer. do you sand after primer? and once the base coat is layed, so i sand before or after the clear? i havent really found the answers for that anywhere ive looked and i just want to know if anyone knows and can tell me. Thank you!
You didn't find an answer when searching, the basics have been covered over and over, and a sticky in this forum? You should really try searching better.
Sanding is done after high build primer. Sanding is not done after a wet on wet sealer (sealer primer) before base.
Light spot sanding can also be done if acceptable on whatever base coat and or sealer your using to de-nib the surface. But a noob could easily create more problems if not done right, so its best left alone until final finessing of the clear is done.
Sanding is not done before the clear, unless you are re-clearing an already cleared surface.
Sanding can also be done when finessing the clear to de-nib or flat sand the clear or to knock down the peel.

try search harder next time, powerflow is one of the good guy around paint forum.(unlike me)
go read on tech sheet on the primer, there's primer you can sand and there's primer you can't. if you are using can primer, you are making a mistake.
