Or do I just need to change the shift cable.....

Everytime my car is cold is hard to change into reverse or to parking,..the shifter gets really hard....when my car is warm is much better, not really smooth but much better......


Is my problem that my transmission is almost going out or just the shifting cable I need to replace?

have you tried to change the fluid yet?

 

my tranny does the same thing.. I think alot of hondas/acuras do when its cold out... But it shouldnt be as hard as you describe...

Try what he says ^^ and change the fluid.. Preferably with Hondas MTF and see what happens.

 

If I were you change the fluid first off cuz that is the easist. If it is your transmission you might not necessarily need to replace the whole thing just maybe those gears. It very well could be the shift cable or also the fly wheel

what about the forks being bent...? Could this be a possibility that its worse when its cold, or would the temperature not have any effect on something like this..??

 

change the fluid if that doesnt help..

sounds like the perfect time for a conversion to a 5-speed

 

ill most likely be tossing my auto d16 trans when i do a swap, bad news its going to be a while, ill pm you when i dont need it no more if you want it its a 98

 

if you change ur mind and need an auto tranny i got one in my 95 sedan. im doing a 5 spd swap so i wont need it anymore. you know, if ur interested

 

See if there is a way to squirt some kind of lube into the shift cable. Use something in a spray can with a little straw thing. If straw thing is too short get some very thin vacuum tubing or something. Start at the highest point of the cable and let gravity drain the lube down the cable. While squirting the lube, move the gearshift thru the gears a couple of times, then squirt more lube.

Works on all kinds of cables that are sticking.

 

the weirdest thing is that once it gets warm....it seems fine....its annoying...and no thanks I don't want to change it to a 5 speed..I live in NYC, traffic is a hassle and I can just image my self stuck in traffic jam while getting a work out in a 5 speed....plus I heard that a lot of times when you do the conversation it usually tends to give people problem, especially clutch problems..

and for those people that are selling their trannys, yeah send me a pm,..I'll be willing to buy one from you guys(as long as it is in good condition) if I need to...

and yeah, I changed the transmission fluid and it still does the same thing.....

btw, where do I spray that lube to the transmission cable?? plus usually the transmission cable has some rubber or black thing that protects it....so how can I spray something inside? Also how can I change certain gears? or is this only for 5 speed? how can I find out if it is the forks being bent? fly wheel?

if I ask my mechanic he says is the shift cable....but I don't want to spend money on a shift cable then weeks later my transmission dies*
