ok first off i own a 1991 SI hatch
the other day when i went out to go to work, when i press the brake pedal the climate control "backlight" comes on my fuel pump loses power and my tailights donot light up.
this also happends when i turn my headlights on or my turn signals on, my fuel pump loses power and my tail lights or my blinkers will not light up when the brake pedal is pressed or turn signals are turned on...
i donot know what this is
i have searched and came up with nothing.. im going to take a look at it tomorrow and try to figure it out..
ive read about how sometimes a bad ground cand cause "similar" things to happen
so thast going to be the first thing im going to check.
but i was wondering if anyone here has had teh same problem or if anyone has any suggestions about what else it could be and what i can check?
this is my daily driver and i need to get it running again soon..
any help is greatly appreciated
thnx in advance

Checking grounds sounds like a good place to start. Fuses too... Sorry I know that like...doesn't help. But give it a try and post back if it doesn't fix anything along w/ any new info. Someone is bound to have advice that's worth a damn. Sorry again & Goodluck

well i have checked the grounds made sure they where all there clean and tight..
fuses are all good..
and i have still come up emty handed...
it almost seems like there is a short somwhere.. but i canot find it, if its even there...
i am really stumped on this one..
the bulbs in the back DO infact get power tho.. just a tiny bit just to make the filament in teh bulb glow... which is something that is also leading me to think its a short... but.. i have no idea where to start looking
any advice would be great...
thnx in advance

thast alomost teh same conclusion i came to .... that soem how... power is feeding into teh ground and throwing everything all waky and backwards...
i think it may be a short some where but im unsure as to were.. i dont have a engine swap.. but teh engine has been changed twice befor due to lack of matinence (first one from original owner ... second from my stepfather)
ive pulled my dash to try and see if i can find a cause for this problem and have still not found anything (and to swap my old broken dash for a new one that i have but mainly for this problem)
some thing else i have thought about... is possibly a relay going bad and shorting out... if that possible..
so i think i may start with getting new relays
and see if that changes anything
but probobly wont... ive just been thinking of what this could be for a few days.. and still have not found anything it absolutly could be...
so hopefully i will find something this weekend and will have an update by next week...

well i am happy to report that i have found and eliminated the problem...
apparently there was a ground wire that attaches to the body near teh rear hatch latch... sum how (wether it be some on ebefor me messing with it or it vibrating loose) was loose.. once i cleaned and tighend the ground wire.. the problem completely dissapeared.. car runs perfect.. and lights work flawlessly...
thnx for all the help

just below the hatch latch about 2 inches down behind the paneling there is a bolt holding down an eyehook like ring with 2 wire attached... not hard to find..
