So if you think you're a paranoid ITR owner, think again.
My co-worker had his (stock) Black '98 GS-R stolen here at work last Friday. It occurred sometime during the hours of 2:30pm and 6:30pm after he returned from lunch.
I daily my ITR, but I think since I park close to the building it was left untouched (for now). Keep in mind that this is a business campus with roving security, employees walking to and from meetings all day (they have to pass through the parking lot) and the occasional smoker outside getting their nicotine fix.
Protect your **** people!
EDIT: Pic removed for safety reasons.

Jeez...
When I used to daily the R I'd always give roaming security like $10 or so a day to keep an extra good eye on the R, same goes for everywhere. When I used to live in an apartment I had a detatched garage, and always tipped out security to have them watch my garage nice and good. It's worth it IMO, more peace of mind as well.

That sucks, was it driven away or loaded up on a flatbed tow truck?
Speaking of which, if you saw a flatbed tow truck (with company name and number written on the side of it) loading up a car would you go up and ask them to see paperwork or anything showing that they are to tow the vehicle? I would venture to say that thiefs are now making up fake tow truck company names and magnetized plates to put on their trucks and stealing cars in broad daylight and getting away with it because nobody asks anything.....where is Chris Hansen and Dateline when you need them, we need to set up a rigged car

After watching "It takes a thief" on Discovery Channel I can completely believe these sort of actions. I'v made a point to acknowledge this issue, and should a time come where I see something suspicious I will ask.

It's almost to the point where someone should approach the tow truck driver everytime, I don't think many people would find a car getting towed suspicious unless the alarm was going off while he was trying to put it up on the flatbed, but then he could say it's a repo, then what the hell are you gonna do?

Less is more in this case, there are plenty of other threads that cover this topic I'm afraid.

That's pretty ballsy in a secure parking lot, no work video cameras looking over the lot? I figured if it was towed away then nobody outside would say anything and bam it's gone

Damn, sorry to hear. Glad your R is safe. Time to re-evaluate the security layers.

Personally, I have a keypad on my dash where you have to enter a 5-digit code to operate the vehicle. If the proper code isn't entered, a 4-lb brick of C4 detonates under the driver's seat.

why blow up a perfectly good car. I was thinking more along the lines of 3" barbed 16d nails spaced along a 12" square area at 2" OC repeatedly stabbing and releasing until a pressure sensor no longer feels someone on the seat. all while the alarm is going off. this would be a 2 fold system; stop the vehicular theft, and neuter him.

I would hate to have the setup accidently go off while you (owner) were in the car!
lets get real now, that is not going to happen, simply precautionary steps could have prevented this easy. 2 dollar cut off switch couldve saved this GSR.

Did this happened in California?
You can not daily a R, GSR, or 99-00 Si at all here in California. Stock or not someone will always be trying to jack your ride.

i have a eg coupe with gsr motor. Even though no one around my neighborhood gets jacked its just asking for trouble leaving it out in the open completely in the front. I always park it in the back yard around the house. I also removed the EX sticker in the back so its just plain.
As for parking at public places i usually park somewhere where its not too alone and not too far from where i am going. You'll be a target if you park at the same parking spot everyday. My friends crappy accord here in cali got stolen but the engine had so many miles on it like 200k and it was low in gas so they dropped it off at a burgerking and took the stereo only and smashed the windshield with some fist since it had blood on it lol. Only reason it happened is since everyday he has the same schedule and parks at the same place at home and at work. Gotta change it around. If you feel insecure then get some kill switches. Get a wheel boot for a piece of mind. It will help you big time if you live in a crappy neighborhood lol. At least the car wouldn't move.

If you are talking to me, then it's already waaaay too late for that. My R was here when the GS-R was stolen, so in essence they already have seen it and it's a target.
I don't pay for full coverage for nothing.
Though, I invite them to come back. We've got something special cooked up for their return.

Hold one of them down, then take a cigarette lighter and heat up a car key until it glows. Then press the key against his face. That's enough to make anyone rethink their career.

Just to follow-up, the car was found about a week later stripped to a shell.
Witnesses saw a tow truck dumping the car and removing the wheels prior to driving off.

dam, i hate those thieves. Should connect up something that shocks you if someone touches the door handle or even ask the place you work at if you can park in the grass. Some place where the tow truck can not reach you and have some good kill switches and you should be ok.
