You may want to re-run your speaker wires away from the power wires of the amplifier. (IE run the speaker wires on the drivers side and power & ground on passenger side) Or else you can get a noise filter (I doubt that would work) but that should solve 99% of your problems.

Hope that helps

I was recommended a ground loop isolator that you can get at radio shack I think.
No clue if that'll solve my engine noise.

things to check

1. did you scrape all the paint off where your ground is?
2. how long is the ground wire (should be as short as possible)
3. rca's and power wire's should be seperated ie. different sides of the car, not just "not touching".
4. Some (older) amps can't be directly connected to the chassis
5. where did you ground it??

If you try everything you can think of and there's still noise, turn the gains down a little

do a search theres plenty of threads on this alternator whine... anyway check your grounds and see if their as short as possible and grounded on bare metal surfaces (not painted).. check the grounds at both your amp (s) and head unit.. also you might want to make sure your power wires are separated from your RCA AND speaker wires
