Factory Car Alarm?
hello all!
i just purchased a 2008 honda civic ex sedan. when i was closing the deal
at the dealership the person told me to pay extra money for the factory
car alarm. she said that if i opted out they would disable the alarm before
i drove it out.
is there a way to enable this myself? or to at least have someone else
do it (assuming they have the proper tools)
thanks!

maybe i misunderstood... i still have a keychain with the alarm thing on it
and when i click it beeps.. i just assumed it was a standard alarm (perhaps
entry detection only) but if i recall correctly the dealership told me that
there is an option to also have "shock" detection???? perhaps i need to
research more myself before asking such vague questions.

That's bullshit. The EX comes with a factory alarm at no extra charge. You should receive two transponder keys for the keyless entry and one valet key. It is an anti-theft type alarm with keyless entry. If the vehicle doors are forced open or opened with the windows down while the alarm is armed, the alarm will go off. Same thing if your hood is popped while the alarm is activated it will go off. However it will not go off from impact such as kicking the car or breaking the glass. For that you will need the shock sensor. The shock sensor is an extra-cost option.
But the factory alarm is at NO EXTRA CHARGE. If they are trying to charge you extra for it then they are trying to rip you off. Decline to pay anything extra and tell them what we have told you.
If they still disconnect the factory alarm....then report them to the General Manager of the dealership or to Honda Corporate immediately.

Ya dont get the shock option. I got conned into it and the friggin alarm was going off every 5 minutes whenever a bus drove by. Finally figured out how to turn the sensitivity down a month ago.

No. It's really not. Too many people have been having problems with it. There are much better aftermarket options that also offer better features as well.
