Default My Koni Yellows

Will I need to have my Koni Yellows revalved?

Currently I'm running H&R Sports and switching to GC with 450/500 in mind. I don't know the difference of ride height and spring rate affect on the Koni's with what I'm already running and what I plan to run.

Also, a 24mm ASR rear sway or 22mm ITR will be added + sub brace.

Car is for road race but not dedicated for another 2yrs. Not a daily driver even though those spring rates are more friendly for a daily. For what its worth, they probably have 40k miles on them.

500lbs is about the limit of what Koni Sports can handle.
with 40k miles on the shocks, it might be questionable, but if you're on a budget I'd go ahead and do it and worry about rebuilding/revalving later.
If you bought the shocks new they have a lifetime warranty at least.

If you are thinking about making this a track car / race car,

you might want to think about getting the revalved konis.

For dedicated track/race use, you are probably going to want a higher rate springs.
with 450front you will mostly likely bottom them out. I know that I do on my EG, and I have the ride height at about 6"

I will be upgrading to higher rate springs and shocks as soon as I can.
If you do run the higher rate springs, you will need the revalved koni.

450/500 will suck on the street and will be ok for the track.

I run 450/600 and I dont' really drive the car much on the street. It does ok for the track, but it's not ideal.

I really need something like 650/850 or stiffer.

The street I'm not too worried about as that is limited use....my truck is my daily.

The car will not be dedicated for a good 2, maybe 3 years depending how often I do events between VIR and Summit and get my license. I have to juggle work a lot with fun.

I figure a 450/500 setup will be forgiving enough, yet capable enough to really learn my way around the track. I'm just a little stuck on which size rear sway to do at this point.

Once I have my license, or if catch on fast enough / I get aggrivated enough on track with the 450/500......then I figured I would upgrade and swap the Koni's out.

Thoughts?

While I'm at it, how much difference can I expect between the 22mm Type R rear sway and the 24mm ASR with the 450/500 setup. I can't determine which to go with yet based on what I've been reading. I'll have the ASR sub frame brace.

This is pretty much what i did.

I was practically given some koni yellows (OTS valving)

So I got some GC's 450/600 for the last 2 years or so I have been running on these.

You will have fun with them, you will learn a bunch, just don't expect to keep them on forever.

But.. since you are buying new shocks, why not just by the valving that you are gonna need?

You can still use the lower rates until you want to "graduate"

The only reason I didn't get the revavled konis was because I got the OTS for damn near free. It was always in my plan to revalve them.

I'm not buying new shocks, I've already got the Yellows. I'm thinking I'll just run with them + the 450/500 until I'm ready to upgrade.....then revalve the shocks.

How do you like the 600 rear? How does it respond and what sway are you running?

This is my setup

450 front
600 rear

Stock Front Sway Bar
No Rear Bar

0.125" toe out front
0.000" toe rear

The can handles very well. It is very predictable and well behaved. This is why I love driving it at the track. I feel very confident in the car.

Here are the downsides. The cars does lean pretty bad in the turns. It does need some higher rate springs, I am bottoming out the front shocks onto the bumpstops.

It may not be the best way to fly, but I ran 700s and 800s with OTS Yellows this last season. It worked OK, if the track is smooth you will be alright for a few events, but I would look at upgrading as soon as possible.
