Default HPS (hawk users)- bed in procedure?

I recently changed my brakes and upgraded to HPS pads and brembo blanks. Every feels great, pedal feel is good, no vibrations,etc..

BUT....they seem to take a little to long to stop, feels like there's a thin layer of grease (but I was careful not to contaminate the pads and I degreased the rotor) I only have about 70 miles on them and did follow hawk's bed in procedure. I know the hps doesn't have a high temp operating window and should stop well cold.

ANY IDEAS? how did you guys break them in and how long before you can start threshold braking? I remember on my last car breaking them in for about 500 miles but they were all oem parts.

Hawks bed in procedure.
After installing new brake pads, make 6 to 10 stops from approximately 30-35 mph applying moderate pressure.
Make an additional 2 to 3 hard stops from approximately 40 to 45 mph.
DO NOT DRAG BRAKES!
Allow 15 minutes for brake system to cool down.
After step 4 your new pads are ready for use.

When I had the HPS they felt the same way. I think its just not a very aggressive compound. I would just get used to them how they are, and drive accordingly. When I had them, they would fade, HP+ has never faded.

i agree. they are truly a nice street pad, but for threshold braking, not the best.. i'd say it will still take more time to get them to bed in though..

they're pretty much an OEM replacement, maybe a bit better, but not much.

bumpin' an old thread.

background:
97HB dx
new slotted brembos front
new hawk HPS

I bedded in my hawk HPS pads (twice) as closely as possible to the instructions given.

and both times, they have glazed over and have had to sand them down.

they just dont have that bite that i was expecting and fade alot sooner than i expect. stepping on the brakes feels like the pads to just gliding.

anyone else got this issue with HPS pads?

What did you clean those new rotors with before you put them on? If the rust protection coating was still on the rotors there're pretty slippery.

HPS pads and threshold braking from 120-40 is not a good idea. You end up with soft brakes and grass/dirt stuck in many places under your car.

HPS for street
carbotech XP8s for track duty. (I didn't really like the HP+'s either, pedal felt softer by the end of the second lap)
