Default Rod Bolts? OEM or ______?

hey guys,

I'm doing an engine rebuild on my race car (nothing blew up, just needs a refresh and a good looking over). The engine is mostly OEM with I/H/E, hondata, mild head porting, and valve job. The engine revs to 8K, over and over all day long on race weekends. It puts out about 180 WHP. Does anyone know of a good rod bolt upgrade, like ARP or something. ....or should I stick with OEM from Honda?

thanks!

from what i can tell ARP doesnt even make a stock type replacement for H22 rods. at least they dont specify it in their catalog. and the difference between stock rod bolts compared to how the ARP bolts are on say Eagle rods is entirely different.

BTW i saw the pic of your car in honda tuning

i just looked through the ARP catalog, but they didnt display any rod bolt applications for the h22. However, they do have bolts for the f20 and f22c.
I dont know the size of the s2000 rod bolts but it would be something to look into.

Also, i had contacted ARP a long time ago about getting some bolts made. they said that if you can send them a bolt, they will make it. Don't know the cost tho.

A new set of OEM bolts should easily take the 8000 rpm torment for a street car, but full out racing and staying at 8000 rpm is something beyond my knowledge.

We had a set of ARP rod bolts installed in OEM H22 rods before. I'll have to dig up the details again...

Walter, who is doing the engine work? Be very careful with the machining on the FRM cylinders. Also what is this mild porting you refer to?

just port matching to the IM, and header. No more then 1" into the head. It's legal.

I'm having a local shop do the machine work. However, the only thing I might machine is the rods for the new rod bolts. I'm not boring out the block for over-sized pistons, or anything like that as mine are still in good shape and I don't want to mess with it too much. I might put new rings on the pistons though.

It looks like Integra rod bolts might work as Honda has the same part number for both their rod blot nuts, however the rod bolts are listed as different part numbers. Maybe one is longer than the other?
