stupid question about using a orbital buffer
I got a refurbished orbital buffer, and it didn't come with instructions.
When you put the wax on, do you keep working it until the wax disappears, or do you let it haze up, then buff it off?

use terrycloth bonnet
put wax on the bonnet
put on car and start up
apply but don't "work" into finish too much (could burn the clear coat)
remove with towel
even application is key

Crap. Three differnet answers....
Put it on with buffer and take it off with towl, put it on with towl and take it off with buffer, and do both with buffer....

look, i was a detailer for the past 5 years, so take my word for it. you WILL NOT burn through anything with an orbital buffer. you really can't cause any damage with an orbital, that's why they are good for the commoner. i agree with whoever said apply the wax using an applicator pad and then buff off, this will give you the most even coverage. do it in sections, like half a hood, then a qrtr panel, then the door......so on.......
trust me......don't be afraid to use the orbital. if you have a highspeed.......well that's another story.

Orbital polisher or buffer....there is a distinct difference and they are used very differintly.......
And I agree with the 5 Year detailer totally!
just curious.. what color is your car?
Mustang is white
Orbital is orbital.
take it from another fellow auto detailer (been in business for 6 years now>>Anthony's Auto Detailing) that you will not burn your clearcoat with an orbital buffer, as tnord said they are good for the commoner because they do not put constant power on any one spot of the paint.........now rotary buffers on the other hand are meant to be used by professionals, they move in a constant circle and can burn the paint if left in one spot for too long.
i have found the best method to follow is this:
1. hand apply wax/polish
2. buff off with rotary/orbital buffer
all in sections of course........good luck
