Default Holy %$#& I have a CRX in the garage o.O

A couple years ago I bought my CRX with every intention of finishing it up into a solid, clean CRX. But, soon after the purchase, my class schedule became more demanding and work hours subsequently slowed. So for 2 years I just drove it exactly how I bought it. I kept up on maintenance and what not, but next to no money went into the car other than that.

Well recently my guitar instructor offered me a job to come teach with him. My student base filled up insanely fast after the Christmas rush, and at the end of December I walked out of work holding my first decent pay check since I bought the car. I fell in love with the job and decided to take a semester off my my CS degree and try to figure out if I want to be a poor guitar teacher for the rest of my life or a well-payed code monkey lol. So now I am focusing on work and living at home until this summer so expenses are low and income is high (what I would consider high anyways - chump change to what some of you guys prolly make). Perfect time to start working on the rex amirite?

Here's what I started with:

1990 CRX Si
Previous owner swapped in a B16A3 w/ YS1 Cable trans.
He put on a Mugen body kit himself which was poorly fitted when I bought and has since only worsened. Not to bash on the guy or anything, he's a nice dude. Just sayin.
Also, had lowering springs on stocker struts.

Some pics of the car:

In the parents' garage

Rust on the rear quarter-panel

Interior-- Some sort of evil rice-demon possessed me and rattle-canned some interior stuff yellow... and did an awful job. As if the color wasn't bad enough. I hated it immediately, so I re-did it silver in the center and black on the doors. I did a better job with the silver but now all the yellow over-spray sticks out like a soar thumb. (Not that it didn't before) So that will be a soon-to-come fix... I'm an idiot.

Engine Compartment

I ordered some Tokico shocks (Illuminas) and springs last month and put the fronts on. When I started the first rear though, the bolt stripped. So I said screw it, I'll just order new lca's next month. But it gave me a chance to get a pic pf the parts...

I picked up some new axles too because the old ones had torn boots and diver's side recently started making noise.

I was planning on replacing them today but got stuck right off the bat on the axle nut. I even recruited the old man to help out... we were standing their scratching our asses like a couple of stumped apes after going at it with an electric impact wrench, a breaker bar with a 4' pipe and a propane torch. I think I'm gonna pick up a beefier breaker bar and a longer pipe and try again next week. We'll see

As for plans for the car, I really want to get the body kit fitting right and get it painted. I think I'll leave body work to the shop though.

Previous owner had plans to turbo it, but thats not on my agenda at this point. I think I'm going to just throw some headers on it. I hate the sound right now... I really like the RS*R sound so I may go that route.

I'll post more decisions as I make them I suppose.

Anywho, thanks for checkin out my ride, updates will be posted as they come.

Nice, looks great and I wish you the best. Fix that rust before anything.

Ninja Edit: Holy geez! Mask off your intake from your positive thermal, your gonna burn that baby right into the ground.

It always blows my mind when I see someone that has the smarts to do a swap like that, and then also put ricer tail lights on the same car. Just baffling to me.

Hey i have the same suspension setup. I bought the tokico kit with springs front and rear. I like the drop with the WW kit. And the ride quality is good.

The axle nut can be fun I broke 2..... 1/2" breaker bars and a wratchet trying to remove mine Make sure you remove the indent on the nut with a flat head or something. Soak it in pb blaster or wd40 and let it sit over night. I finally got it off with a full lenght fence pipe. Talking like 10ft,lol. I had a friend help me pull

10ft, Christ. I don't have anything that long layin around, hope it doesn't come to that. We were using a 1/2" breaker bar too and thing was bending bad so I think I'm gonna rent/borrow a 3/4" and give that a whirl once I get my hands on a longer pipe.

Nice fatty fives to roll on.
Clean DOHC swap ....blue....really?

Projectors & Clear Tails

I do like the Wings West kit. If you have body skills like motor skills, trim the bumper lenses to fit JDM lenses.

I can love any CRX though. My '89 CRX Si, was my first Honda.

Previous owner had a thing for blue I guess... blue valve cover, blue motor mounts, blue fuel rail, blue wipers (all 3), blue gauge cluster. It's like Picasso's rolling ricey nightmare.

I'll be fixing it, but what are my options for the mounts & fuel rail? Am i expletived?

You know, I was surprised when I was getting NO lady attention drawn in by the ***** intake at first. Then I realized it's all in the presentation. You can't just park, pop the hood and be like, "YO COME SCOPE THE DICKTAKE." No no... You have the be subtle. Make them think they caught a glance of something they weren't supposed to like so:

Then its fish in a barrel my friend...

As for who makes it, I have no clue. Nothing on it to say. Ebay special most likely...came with the car.

I lol'd here, a/s/l haha good stuff

--20/F/INMAHBEDSUCKA

Anywho, I hit sears yesterday and picked up another 1/2" breaker bar that looked 10x nicer than the one I had at home (some pos John Deere circa 1940 deal). Then I soaked PB on the Axel Nuts and went to bed...

So this morning I get up, head to the garage, pull the driver side wheel, start the engine and have my friend teh ghetto broom hold the brake

So I get the socket on the nut and slide the floor jack under the breaker bar handle. (Trick here is keeping the floor jack parallel to the handle of the bar. Also, the smaller the angle coming off the nut the better or you have people diving out of the way of ricocheting breaker bars ) Then I open my driver side door for cover to hide behind while I jack up the breaker bar. So I start pumping away, not much really happening at first then POP. I stopped and giggled quietly with glee crouched behind my door but waited a few seconds to make sure nothing else made noise before I slowly looked over my door to find this:

SONUVA @!#$%

Any suggestions? Just try a 3/4" bar next time? -_- $$$ I supposed I could prolly rent one. Just worried I'll break it too. Any other ideas would be very much appreciated

Also... think sears will give me a refund? o.O

Impact guns are your friend.

I would take it to a friend with one or a shop. Ask them to break it off and put it back on for ya. Give them like $20 or something.

Thanks bro

As for the intake, I masked it off last night with electrical tape. Ludesrv made me nervous so I just went ahead and did it. Better safe than sorry... Considering moving the battery too which would eliminate the problem. Thanks for the heads up tho

--Electrical tape should suffice for now right?

I think I'll take tippy's advice on the impact wrench sounds like less of a headache

Thanks for the suggestions -- and thanks biglue for the heads up on sears

No. Don't ask me how I know.

Just spring for the $0.99 cover at your local auto parts purveyor. Anything to save you from pushing your car out of the drive-thru when that thing shorts and kills your main relay. (again, don't ask me how I know.)

Otherwise sick ride. Enjoy that CR-X.

Really?

Let me introduce you to my persuatiuon bar.

Never needed to use anything else, wether it be on axle nuts or crank pulleys, any of the real bitches come loose.

edit: for my intake arm i ziptied a 4" x 4" peice of 1" thick high density foam on the intake arm where it touched the battery. the tape is ok, but you need lots, and it wears away with time, so its always gotta be on your mind.
