Steerin column screech???
Hey guys, just bought my new ep3 and there is a screeching sound while accelerating and braking when moving the wheel. It sounds a LOT like on this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wruyQGIkGv4
Anyone have any idea? or had the same problem? Thanks a ton to whoever can help

If you just bought it, it may be from the cleaner or Armor All they used to clean it with if it got down in the steering column, mine did that when I first bought it, but it wore off after about a week or 2.
Never thought of that.. but i bought it from private party and it was clean
. Also it sounds like its coming from the engine bay. its kinda scaring me since i just spent 9 g's on a car that already has a probelm

Welcome to the club...the EPS steering rack on the EP3 is notorious for this noise (coined "Coffin creak"). In a nutshell since the EPS system doesn't use a constant source of lubrication the rack itself gets worn out. Unfortunately for us EP owners Honda dropped the ball on this one and so far only a select few have had their racks serviced by Honda. There is a service bulletin on this; however the VIN range is rather limited and expect a huge hassle having something done about it. Honda will do whatever they can to avoid having to take care of the problem and 9/10 they will try to blame it on everything but the rack...just an FYI.
Here's whats recommended if you want to skip the hassle of having to deal with Honda.
Temporary fixes:
-Replace the internals or rack itself
-LOTS of white lithium grease
Permanent fixes:
-Learn to live with it
-Sell the EP
-Convert the EPS to hydraulic RSX system.
It's not dangerous and your car will not fall apart (from anything I've seen or read); but I can attest to the fact that its HIGHLY annoying and in time your steering will feel slightly more loose.
Here's a thread on ephatch that will tell you everything you need to know: http://www.ephatch.com/forum/s...99739
