transmission reverse idler gear washer
I noticed that some b'series hydro trannys have them and some dont.
Can somebody please explain why washer #7 in the diagram is excluded in some transmission and included in others? If you know the purpose behind the washer please enlighten us.
Thank you.

also, does anyone know if there is a difference in the reverse idler gear and shafts between the b'series trannys? can these be interchanged?
When compared side by side they look almost identical.
hmm..

gsr and Ls have different reverse idler gears and shafts.
Gsr gears uses needle bearings in the gear and the shaft is solid. It needs the washer to get the proper height and clearance.
LS uses what seems like a brass bearing and the shaft have a split/groove in it for oiling. It needs no washer to get its height for clearance.
You can use either idler gear set in any hydro b'series tranny but you have to pair them up accordingly.
