Default Introduction To Myself/Car

Hi all,

I’ve been browsing the forums for quite some time now, reading up, looking at some build logs, and now that I finally acquired my "first" car, I thought I would share it with all of you.

Well first off let me tell you who I am. Name's Matt, I live in Quebec, and I’m about to turn 20. Don’t know much about mechanics, but I am very willing to learn.

Anyways, as the story goes, when I first started looking for a car I was very interested in buying a Honda CRX. I found one in Ontario, a 1988 CRX Si, with a B16, and some other goodies. Bought it for 2300$, brought it back to Quebec, got it inspected, and turns out the car was finished. Floor was completely finished. I guess I learnt the hard way not to rush into a buy and get too excited. Anyways, ended up selling the car for 1000$ because it required an inspection to drive on Quebec streets.

Bit less then a year later, still looking for a car, still in debt to my parents, a gem (minus some minor details) fell into my hands. A 1993 Honda Civic DX Hatchback. With only 127,000 KM on it (80,000 miles), first owner, and it was well taken care of. Bought her for 2250$ Anyways, to the pictures:

Anyways, thought would be appreciated.

Also, I have some plans I want to do with the car.

First I want to get:
JDM Smoked Amber Corners
JDM Smoked Amber Side Markers
JDM Yellow Fog Lights
Rear Disc Brake Conversion
Some new suspension (I was looking at some Skunk2 equipment)

Obviously, I don’t want to rice out the car, I want to just put some tasteful mods to it.

As for questions:

-I was wondering if paying the extra penny for Password JDM Corners, Sides, and Fogs are worth it. I know you can get them pretty cheap on eBay, but it seems like there are some "quality" ones that are more expensive then some of the other parts.

For example:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/JDM-HEADLIG...wItem
Also:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/92-95-Honda...wItem

I don’t know if the black would be rice

As for installation, is it complicated, I’ve never really worked on a car before, and I would like it to be properly installed and working perfectly.

As for suspension, like I said before I was looking at some Skunk2 equipment. But as for what is required, I’m not sure. I see on their site, they have Full Coil over, Sleeved Coil overs, and Sport Shocks.

I was just wondering if this combination of pieces would fit
Sport Shocks
Front and Rear Cambers
Lower Control Arm
Lower Arm Bar (does this reduce the "need" for a rear strut bar?)

Finally, if I do get a rear disc conversion, will the hand brake still work if properly installed? Thanks.

Any input is greatly appriciated.

You got good plans, nothing over the top it seems, though I'd ditch the plans for the sidemarkers.

Everybody's doing them now so you don't get points for originality and IMO they look ugly on a civic. Though to your other upgrades you're looking at.

first thing i'd do is get under those rear wheel wells and look for rust.

then spray some good undercoat in there to prevent future rust.

Nice to see some Canadians on this forum.
I personally think you should get that first e-bay link you posted. I had those black headlight on my car and they look great without looking ricer. The corners and fogs are good too trust me.

As for the suspension, get coilovers, easy as swapping the old for the new. Not sure how north you are in Quebec but you would want to adjust the ride height during winter.

Well the previous owner repaired all the rust that was on the car. He cut out the chunks, and rewleded it. Replaced the front fenders. So far only spots of rust on the car, are on the hood, where the bump is, and on the back, right above the licnense plate lights. I brought it to CAA (Canadian AAA) to get inspected, nothing wrong with the car, floor is solid. Only one dollar sized hole on it.

Also, in Canada, Day lights are "required" well when they were made, I dont know if they would enforce the law if I removed them form the car. But is there a way to make it so when I pull the hand brake, the daylights would turn off? My dad's MPV does it.

Ya, like the car is just sitting there, idleing, and when headlights are turned off, day lights stay on, so when you pull the hand brake, day lights turn off.

go for the first ebay item you listed. password is a rip off. i have the exact same lights that your looking at and theyre great quality, great price, look and fit like oem. the fog lights come with an oem switch as well. heres the same set on my car. clean, not rice.

as for installation, there are plenty of write ups. you just have to search. its not hard but the screws on the bumper tend to strip out. so i used a pair of vise grip pliers on mine.

as for suspension, skunk2 is good stuff. i have Megan Racing springs on the original strut and it rides and handles great. plus a strut bar set.

hope this helps

im not familiar with the day lights on civic but couldnt you just remove the bulbs? and when you pull the ebrake up do the day lights turn off. i know the cavilers do. they work off of a ground, you could just take you center console off and permanently ground it. but that would cause your brake indicator light on the dash to stay on.

you know how in the U.S. we say "low mileage"?

How do you say such a thing in canada? Kilometerage? I should know this as I grew up in a country that used KM/H...but I didn't have a license. That's my excuse for EVERYTHING, btw.

Don't overlook what this guy said. It's seriously the first thing I do with any 92-95 Civic.

That's inaccurate. I'm offended. BTW, take back your cold air. I'm sick of freezing.

No there aint any rust in the rear quaters

Well about the city lights, I want to have them on when Im driving around during day time. But say when Im just parked, while the engine is still running, I want to be able to pull the hand brake, and the city lights will turn off.

All thoughts greatly appricated
