01 civic problems
6 months ago my car wouldn't run and when it did it acted like it was running on 3 cylinders. You would start it and hear the ECU click and the rpm gage would jump up and down. I was told that the diodes in my alternator died and fried my ECU. So I took it to honda and they replaced both the ECU and I changed the altenator. I noticed that some how my bottom alternator bolt broke this weekend so I replaced it. I got off the highway at lunch today and my car started actin up and doin the same exact thing that it did 6 month ago. Am I the only one that has this much bad of luck or not? An why would it cause this to happen so fast, I have never had to replace a ECU in a car ever and I've owned several.....PLEASE HELP!!
I over it!

Df take it back. you should have some type of warranty on the work.

well I do I just called in the ECU is covered for 12k or 12 month but I'm not sure how close I am to that. I travel from knoxville to PA and knoxville to NC alot so I think I might be passed it. But I have to check when I get home. I sure hope so though as it's alot of money
EXACT same thing happened to me, but after I got it back from the dealer (Cost around $2,000 for all the crap they did..) it never messed up again.
They replaced my fuse box, gauge cluster, ripped out my security system, and in the end it was the ECU... I got the alternator fixed at a shop before taking it to the dealer.

WOW that dealer bent you over...they charged me $550 for a new ecu and installed it. I am going to post another bulletin on this so everyone knows. On all civics 01-04 if the alternator gets loose at all and rattles around it causes the ECU to think it is being over charged and fries the ecu instantley. I found this out last night, the dealership didn't even know it at first. They have a website they look up problems on and he said that I am correct and that is what caused it (wouldn't tell me the site either). So be careful of this as it will cost you a pretty penny.
When I brought my car in the dealer was stumped. So they went through a checklist that they said was manditory. First they thought it was the security system, so they ripped it out. Then on the list it was like Cluster, Fuse box, then ECU at the end. This happened in April of last year, it's been working fine since then..
