Default Do I have a "dry motor" ?

I checked my oil today and its been 2,600 since last change, and the oil was full...as in, past the second hole on the dipstick. I know its a good thing that i'm not burning oil, but I also know that its a bad thing to have a so called "dry motor"...whereas you don't use the oil properly. I was wondering if ITR motors are known for not using lots of oil, or should i take some serious time and check my oil pump...etc...?

I checked my oil the first time when the engine was cold (from sitting overnight), also I checked it about 10 minutes after driving home from work...both times at the same level on the dipstick...I just don't want to put too much stress on the motor if its not getting sufficient oil.

I don't know if this makes any diff. or not, but I'm running Mobil 10w/30 synthetic w/Honda OEM oil filter.

Thanks for any help...

I want your motor

My ITR eats about 1 litre of oil between oil changes...sometimes a little more.

Do a few hundred miles of high speed highway driving @100 - 110 mph,
while in VTEC and downshifting and then tell us if you "don't use the oil properly".

sounds like fun and all, but i'm not sure I will like the outcome if something is wrong... I'm still not sure whether I've just taken it easy on this oil change, or something is messing up with the oil pump. I've disected an oil pump off of a D16a, don't know if they are too different, but I don't want to start on a project like that if its not necessary...

Seriously, ... in "normal" driving I wouldn't expect oil use.
Also some people seem to "use" oil while running Mobil 1, but then again that's under track use conditions for the most part.

I wouldn't worry about, ... actually I be quite happy thet nothing is wrong.
If the oil pump wasn't working, you'd know it. Ed

Do a compression test for starters. Maybe a leakdown test as well. You can also remove the valve cover to inspect your upper end for wear. The head is the last place that receives oil, so if everything there is in good shape you shouldn't have to worry about your oil pump.

If you're not driving it hard, as in sustained high-rpm operation, you probably won't use a whole lot of oil.
