Well I'm putting togather my motor today and started to check all my clearances. And the Eagle Rods plastic guage are within spec. But if you "twist" (not side to side) the rods they move back and forth. Is this ok or not? I mean the gauge says they have the correct clearence yet they move pretty easly. So if anyone has experiance this please let me know or if there is something wrong.

Most do measuring in inches. Also thats on the tighter side not the looser. .0015'' is ideal.

 

service manual oil clearance is .020 - .038mm (.008-.0015 in) and max is .05 mm (.002 in). so its right where it needs to be. But the problem is that the rod is able twists on the crank, its not alot but it does click when you twist it. And i just want to make sure this is ok before i go ahead and finish putting the motor togather

 

if max clearance is .002 and yours are measuring at .025 shouldn't the problem be kinda obvious?

I just copyed it from the manual so thats what it says. (I might have copyed it wrong. ) But reading the plastic gauge its within spec.

go to the pros. take your readings to a local machine shop you can trust.
they can tell if its with in specs for your needs. a good machine shop will also advise you on which side of the spectrum of clearance to be closer to if you plan on boosting or reving the block in to the 95k range.

Or you can just read the specs from the manuel and look at the readings your getting with the plastigauge.
And i dont think its possible for him to rev to 95k with his motor.

 

If you are %100 sure that you correctly did the plasti-gauge and it is within spec, then it will be fine. Side to side/twisting movement should be ok as lomg as it is not extreme. 1 more test to do/check is to hold the rod and pull straight up and push straight down. You should feel NO movement in the bearing at all. Another way to check is to rotate the crank so that the crank lobes are up and piston/rod assy is down (BDC) Now move the rod side to side, it should have adequate clearence and not touch the crank lobes.

If your not sure measure again and again until you are satisfied with you readings, if they are within spec, I wouldn't worry.

 

I measured it 4 time. all came out to be the same. And I also installed one of my stock rods onto the crank and it also twisted a little bit, not as much as the eagle rod but the stock rods connecting end is wider than the eagles. So i'm guessing its just fine.

I'm just hoping that someone has a eagle rod and the right bearing and can install it on a crank they have and tell me if theres does the same thing.

Well after adding oil the be bearing and reinstalling the rod it appers much more stable and it doesnt twist as much. But it still does twist so.... I guess I should be ok. The twisting still worries me that the rod is still to loose.

 

Remember that clearence will be taken up onch the parts are at proper operating temp. due to heat expansion.

Wish I could help more but I dont have eagle rods...and my engine is in my car!
