Default Bottom Line.... CAI or SRI?

I have an '08 SI Sedan, and have been contemplating buying one of these intakes. I've read hundreds of threads contradicting one another. CAI is better. SRI is better. CAI will suck up too much water. SRI uses warm air and it sucks.....etc

My simple question. Are either of them worth the money ($250+), and which one? i live in the MD area. No more rain then the next "normal" climate state. Worry about hydro lock or not?

THanks!

All opinions welcome

I doubt you've read hundreds of threads on this having been a member for only 2 days.

But anyway, they are worth the money. My suggestion....if you really don't have to worry about rain.....then flip a coin. The biggest difference between the two is mainly the sound. Power output is nearly identical despite what people might say about CAI being better because it's piped down to the bumper away from engine heat.

Pit an Si with a SRI against one with a CAI with drivers of equal weight and it will be a driver's race every time.

Keep in mind however that you never know when the weather may take an unexpected turn. It's all up to you.

heres the solution. buy the intake that u can make into a cai or sri. i tihnk its ideal since u live in md. sri for the rain and cai for the clear days. also with the cai, expect to clean your filter more often.

Care to post up a link that shows such an intake exists?

I've never seen one. The SRI and CAI pipe in two totally different directions.

sri or cai will be worth the money more if u include a header and exhaust in the future but alone its not badd...for the cai or sri..i would go with the cai...injen makes a good one with the MR technology....the cai will always make more power than the sri and if u are worry about hydrolocking, you would need quite a bit of water to suck into the intake so not really a big deal jus be careful on those rainy days with them big puddles/potholes...but seriously either a cai or sri would be a good upgrade..goodluck on ur choice

there is no diff me and a fellow member of HT raced from a roll. hes got Injen CAI and LSD catback(FA5) and i have K&N sri and evo catback (fg2) we were neck and neck. so the power difference is nothing as RICO said.

GO CAI because there is a difference in power, but not noticeable when driving. The sound from a cai will be deeper and much more pleasing IMO than a sri, plus the whole hydrolocking issue is only an issue if you drive through deep puddles! So I wouldn't worry about it.

I just happened across this:

http://www.knfilters.com/searc...014TS

quoted from the description:

"Typhoon intakes come in one of three designs; cold air intakes (CA), short ram intakes (SR), or complete cold air (CCA) intakes which can be configured as either a cold air intake or a short ram intake."

Just providing information.

all it is is a 2 piece cold air intake. you can detach the bottom pipe and just attach the filter to the top pipe. really simple actually.

That link just looks like a SRI to me. Do they actually make this "CCA" intake for the Si?

I called K&N customer service and clarified some things.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by TRAG &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">all it is is a 2 piece cold air intake. you can detach the bottom pipe and just attach the filter to the top pipe. really simple actually.</TD></TR></TABLE>

The guy I spoke to confirmed this.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by RICO_ &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">That link just looks like a SRI to me. Do they actually make this "CCA" intake for the Si?</TD></TR></TABLE>

I saw the CCA intake listed when I searched for intakes based on vehicle (2007 SI), that is why I posted the link. The K&N guy said that the only intake they have available for the SI is the SRI. If you buy it direct from them, it will run you $321.04. This is a good bit less than retail (but still more than an Injen).

So there is an intake that can be made into an SRI or CAI, it is just not made for the SI.

Well I have a Injen SRI and I love it, the only prob with it is it is a little loud. I say this cause you can hear me v-takin down the road and thats means im a cop magnet. Once I was v-takin on the freeway and a cop pulled another car over. I didnt see him till I was right next to him and he stopped writing the ticket and turned around to look at my car. lol, other that being a cop magnet I love the sound and the pull it gives. Well actually the k20 is a loud *** engine all together so eh. I heard the Fujita SRI is good sound, not to loud and gives gains.

I have a vid on my signature if you wanna look at it. Its a stock SI with Injen SRI

Oh snap! j/k

Hey quick question....OFFICER. Why do police in San Antonio turn on their lights to run a red light....and then turn them back off?? That's cheating.

I thought NOONE is above the law.

By the way..........here's a couple links you wanted.

http://www.corsportusa.com

http://www.ptuning.com

That should get you started.

I would say just get the SRI. That way it's easier to change the filter when the time comes. The power gain difference is neglibile between the two.
