my b16 sputters
around 3,500-4,000 rpms my b16 ef hatch starts to sputter a little, then it kinda snaps out of it when i mash down on the gas. it doesn't do this all the time, but it does it alot more when im driving on the highway. anybody got a clue? i was thinking a fuel problem..... but im not really a mechanic.
yea thats prolly the problem. i just got the car, and i didnt know it but it doesnt have an o2 sensor in it currently. but now, it kinda stopped doing the 3,500-4,000 sputter thing and switched to the low end stall thing. yea, when i come to a stop it almost stalls. it sits @ around 1,000 rpms then falls, then shoots back up then falls. i dunno what the hell is goin on.

well..in all honesty, my car does the same. Both of my o2's right now are run at the end of the collecter on my header b/c i'm too lazy to have a shop weld bungs into my header. Also, remember that if you are using the o2's that came w/ the swap that they most likely have some miles on them and havent even been used in a while...due to the engine sitting in a warehouse. I would replace them and run them the correct way. These are 1 wire o2's..they arent heated.
READ THIS POST IF YOU WANT TO FIX THE SPUTTER PROBLEM.
Sorry for the caps but I have written this many times now. As far as common B16A swap problems, this is probably as common as the bitch pin but not alot of "how-to" posts on it.
<U>The problem is that your O2 sensors are hooked up backwards.</U> The stock plug from your EF wiring harness will only plug into the wrong O2 sensor on the B16A, this is why everyone has the problem. You need to switch your O2 sensor wires, disconnect battery, reconnect and voila! sputter free driving and noticeable better gas mileage. Enjoy!

i just recently had this problem with my b16 i thought it was the swap searched everything...and it turned out it was my fuel filter when was the last time you changed it?

OR you could switch your O2s and fix the problem. The choice is yours. I know what I'm talking about.

oh, i plan on doing that too. but im not throwing code, so id figure id try the fuel filter first. if that doesnt work i'll tackle the o2
If it's not throwing the O2 code, then why would you flip flop it? Try the fuel filter first, I know on jeeps if one 02 goes bad it'll sputter, but that's not what i've experienced with hondas.
Just switch the O2 sensors. It won't throw a code because it is still reading them both, it is just making adjustments to the fuel mixture for the wrong cylinders. ie, if reading a bit lean, it will dump more fuel in the wrong two cylinders and then read rich for those two and try to lean them out but will actually be leaning out the other two. You are running two cylinders lean and two rich at partial throttle. Trust me, don't bother with the fuel filter bs unless you actually haven't changed it in five years (even then you won't notice a difference, it's just maintenance). I know I am right. Change the O2s and enjoy your car running right for the first time since you did the swap. It feels good.
