Default CX transmission in Del Sol

I just recently bought a Del Sol S to use as a highway commute car.

I was originally looking for a VX, but it seems most of those by now have swapped engines in them.

Anyway, I bought this Del Sol and it gets 36 -38 mpg on the highway.

I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts about putting a VX/CX transmission in a Del Sol.

The 1st question is do you think that would improve fuel mileage? I'm thinking it might, but I wouldn't expect any drastic improvement, maybe 2 or 3 mpg better.

2nd, I assume that this would be a simple swap. As in identical replacement.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

BTW, I know what the performance difference would probably be. I'm just interested if there would be any highway fuel improvement.

Bolts right in, and will be slower, but get much better mileage, I averaged 44-45mpg freeway in my CX hatch. DX/LX/Delsol S transmissions are closer to a EX Final drive than a CX Final drive if that helps put it into perspective.

Thanks for the replies.

I think I'll' give it a try if I run into a used CX or VX trans.
