Oil for high mileage accord
Hey guys,
I have a honda accord with 145k+ miles. I'm using synthetic oil right now, but I like to change it religiously at ever 3k miles. Would it be a bad idea to switch to regular oil instead? I would only do this from a cost standpoint. Or, is the synthetic actually more beneficial for the life of the engine even if I am replacing it every 3k? Thanks.

It would be fine to switch to regualr oil as long as you still change it every 3k. One of the main benefits of synthetic is that you can go with longer change intervals.

I used plain old dino oil changed out every 5k on my '90 Civic Si, and it had over 100k miles more on it than the OP's Accord has now when I sold it. Engine was all original, even compression, no internal work. On my current RSX-s, I'm using synthetic with 10k mile change intervals.

I'm sure 5k is fine if you drive in the highway most of the time and check the oil level once in a while. But, I'm **** and prefer a 3k change interval.
Lol
145k isn't "high"
Mine was at 200k when we swapped it.
The "High Mileage" oil causes the seals to swell up to prevent leaks, if you don't have any problems with the car, just continue using what you have now.
Also NO reason to switch to synthetic. Especially on a higher mileage motor.
