i was wondering if it is good to rebuild a JDM 96 JDM ITR motor...called a shop in chicago called one6motor sport and they said it would be at least 2-3000 to rebuild it...or should i just get a gsr motor or a b20 motor and put some ITR parts on to that motor....i blew my ITR motor...so yea..just incase you guys didnt know..so let me know what you guys think..or you guys can give me some thought also on what i should do...rthanks guys...

how did you "blow it" bad rings? thrown rod? dropped valve? if the head is still good i'd go with a B20 block with RS or sparks pistons. some kind of copy header (hytech copy) and your type R top end. some blox b's and good valvetrain (skunk2, etc.) should make way better power than a rebuilt type r. if the rings are bad and the block is still in decent shape on your itr you can sell it for a pretty good amount on ebay. good luck.

ummss well im still in the process of taking out my motor...but i been too busy with work and school...so when im dont taking it out and checking to see whats wrong with it then i will let you know...all i know right know is that i have a smashed spark plug, whole in piston...and a dead car..haha...and i only have about 2gs to spend..so yea..on a budget..
If you block is not cracked and just your piston is damaged, like mine was, just go oversized pistons, new rings, bearings, gaskets and build the head as long as that isn't cracked or damaged too badly also. Check your PM

I have bad news for you-it's going to cost more than $2-3,000 to get you up and running. Your block and head may be junk. It may be possible to sleeve the block and repair the head, but it's not going to be cheap.

SIGH...you guys think i should just pick up a gsr motor or b20...and what i have left from the ITR and throw those into the gsr or b20....

B20 block, find you a bare head, new valvetrain, existing cams, and the rest hopefully you can salvage from the ITR(manifolds, sensors, etc.)
I think you could have yourself a healthy B20/vtec using some of your old ITR parts and $2000... Maybe even throw in some ARP's and RS pistons

oh damn. sounds like you dropped a valve. actually you'd be lucky if your head is even usable... and the sleeve is probably either scarred up or cracked. got my fingers crossed for you but it doesnt sound good... for 2000 you can build a b20 vtec easily, especially if your head is still usable (which i hope it is) and have money left over.

b20 vtec with cams make great power with stock bottom ends. with the sparks or RS pistons and some cams easy 200's whp

Welcome to honda-tech......
I would say take the head off and see how bad it is in there if your head and bottom end are done I would say get a gsr motor and bolt it in put your itr cams in and have a blast....if the bottom end is no good and and can use the itr head still then get a b20 block use some rs pistons and go that route either way they are both good choices but if your an a fixed budget of 2k I would say get the gsr motor and you can always send you itr block to get sleeved and go bigger later that's iff the itr head is unfixable

haha...thanks...but yea ill finish taking my head off some time next week...heading out of town today...wont be back untill sunday night...so when i get the head off ill let you guys know...
got a question...you know the torque scews that hold the vtec head onto the block and hold the cams is it okay if i mix those scews together in one cup....or should i seperate them...should i keep each scew it in its own cup....

Well you have two types of fasteners 1) are the head bolts they hold the head to the block. The cams must be removed to access them. 2) Are the 10mm and 12mm bolts that hold the cam cap it place. The cam caps are what hold the cams in place. The cam caps are labeled with cylinder# and arrows. Those should be placed in the same order they came out. When removing the oil rails i take them off with bolts still in the rails. A good way is to get a clean surface to lay the parts on and put them in the order they came then you just reverse the process for assembly. Also a shop manual for your vehicle will help. GL.

what do you mean organize...like keep each scew in one cup with its # on it so you know were it goes...or juss put the cam bolts that look the same in the same cup..and the once that dont look the same in different cups...
yea...ill probably do that...ummss since i dont have a torgue rench can i juss put the scews back in the same place but then im not gonna make it tight...is that okay...because i just want the bolts in its place and dont want to loose them....and is it okay to just leave the block in the car still have nothing to cover it...or should i cover the block with something...
Oh and by the sound of it. You might be better off starting with another setup. Get a used ls or b20 block and a vtec head. Both can be had for 1000 maybe less if you find a good deal. The other 1000 can be for miscellaneous parts to make the swap work and possibly a bolt on or two. My thought would be if i were in yours shoes(and i have been) get you self a good base to work off of. It might not be exactly what you want or the power you would like to have, but has time goes and you find yourself with little extra cash you add the you setup and make it that much better.
sorry but what do you mean base...like good area to work on...haha...sorry...but yea i want to try to get a 215-250 hp motor...with 2gs...

Put it back the way you found it. Might not be necessary, but it makes me feel better.

As time goes you up grade the bolt ons(ex. inatake mani., exhaust mani. cams, exhaust system). With someone on a budget thats the way to go. $2000 i hate to say is not going to get you those numbers especially 250hp. I'm probably close to $4,000 or more and my motors at 224whp and 150tq. I still have another $1000 or so to go before meeting my goal.
