Default interior light project. (NOT RICE) tell me what u think!

so basically i saw something tight and wanted to copy.. my friend bought a brand new VW rabbit. now at night when i got in i noticed there was a light shining down onto the shifter. it was a dim red light but was bright enough to notice. i really liked this feature and thought itd be cool to have it in my crx. now i know this is probably a pretty hard project to do and will involve some work but i figure itd be pretty cool if i could do it.. heres some pics of what im kinda tryin gto do

now heres what im thinking? dont make fun of my "Paint" job...

hope you guys see what im trying to do.. feedback and advice is always appreciated. thanks!

I dont know if I can agree with your "no rice" statement, but maybe i should withhold judgment.
I just think in order to not be "rice" it needs to have function over form, meaning that it shouldnt be entirely visual, It should do something!

but let me end with something I heard today:" let me give you some advice, do what you like"

I know what you are talking about. Bmw has been doing that for many years.
A barely noticeable light aimed at the shifter.

That's actually one of the features i like most about my bro's BMWs. Dim red maplights for the shifter/coin tray.

do it

My moms HHR has this light (white). I find it annoying as hell while driving. I prefer my attention to be on the road and as dim and low-key as the light is, its still distracting.

actually, i was thinking about doing this myself, the newer accords have a little amber led that shines down. maybe you could put the light where our seat belt light is above the rear mirror...

thats not true anymore!

anyway you should go find one of these lights from another vehicle, thats the probly the tricky part, finding a light thats just right. then mount it and wire it.

if you dont have AC you could use the wiring running to the AC button, it will turn on when the headlights are on. the 2 red wires are all you need.

rehost your pictures!

is this what you are talking about???

de1998hatch do you kno what year accord does this? maby i can find one in a junk yard and figure something out. as for the AC being the switch thats not a bad idea.. theres a difference between rice and jdm.or edm.. what i am trying not to do is have a flashy (rice) neon (rice) that is bright(also rice).. what i AM trying to do is have a dim red or amber (jdm) focused light (edm) aiming at just the shifter. so it does not light up the interior and is out of your field of vision.

my 06 jetta has that and it is badass exp. When your trying to find your lighter, LOL. It wont be that hard, there's a company that makes single bulb led lights that u stick in your vents, there super small, that or u buy a vw. Hey I'm a dieheart honda fan, I even have a blue vin tag tattoo on my arm but my vw drives so smooth, I love it, its a good break from the stiff *** slammed ef at times.

Goodluck with youre project.

I was gonna say it sounded interesting, until you got an attitude.
