Compression Test: One Crank Hold or 4-6 Cranks ??
Well this is a long story but to make it short and simple my buddy and i were discussing which is the right way to do a compression test. Is it:
1. Crank once and hold for 4-6 seconds
or
2. Crank 4-6 times
the first time i ever did a compression test on my motor was with the one crank and hold for 4-6 seconds NOT WOT which yield 125psi on all four cyclinders. i thought this was weird because that is super low compression for a jdm gsr motor because my car ran fine. this was about five weeks ago.
yesterday i did another compression test but this time with process #2...i crank the motor 4-6 times WOT and yield 248-251 on all four cyclinders. this i thought was kind of high.
conclusion: which is the RIGHT way of doing it?

what we were arguing about was is there a difference between HOLDING the crank and cranking it multiple times.

No. The compression gauge will retain the maximum pressure. You have to release it after recording the reading.

First remove all your spark plugs....disable your fuel system and disable your ignition..then start at cyl number 1 and crank engine 7 times at W.O.T then youll get your reading
