Default cat converter question

i'm searching for a catalytic converter for my car... OEM converters are expensive and the ones at the muffler shop are cheap.. but do they still do the job?why are they so much cheaper than OEM? all im looking to do is to stop the fumes in my car.. the muffler shop quoted me 125 including parts and labor. what do you guys think? any help will be appreciated..

People replace their cats with aftermarket ones all the time. Everything OEM is more expensive than an aftermarket replacement.

It could be cheap since it isn't a known brand, but it generally cost a lot of money to go OEM, and in this case, cost more then aftermarket brands.

125 isn't bad. but it isn't the best i've seen either. i live on the east coast though so most of us can get away with a test pipe to pass the visual. maybe you should check the market place. you might find one in there pretty cheap.
