Default New to imports, just bought a CRX

Hi everyone!!

I was looking for some information and some starting places. First some background.

My first car was a 76 mustang II (google it, shudder). I went to a 79 then an 80 5.0. I went to college and needed something practical. I picked up a 93 Subaru SVX and loved it. But literally three days ago I was run off the road by some *** making an illegal turn and the car's totaled.

I chanced upon a 91 CRX Si with a B16A (1st gen) coil overs, clean interior, hellish body that is currently getting like 25 mi to the gallon AND goes fast. It's a win win as far as I'm concerned.

I'll post pics tomorrow if I get a chance.

So onto my questions:

- the thing is in the dirt from being lowered by the coil overs and has a HORRIBLE toe out. I need to fix this. As far as I know the only way to do that would be to adjust it to stock height or buy a camber kit right? Money's tight but I'm looking for some information for when it's not tight. Also, the suspension is REALLY stiff, and bouncy. I'm assuming the springs are rated too high for the car (or they bought an ebay coilover kit).

- the body is in DESPERATE need of some love. I know how to pound out dents and the like, but I'm in need of some advice with installing a front fender. As near as I can tell I need to pull the door off. Does that seem right to you guys?

- Also, it's in need of some oem trim loving. I can google to my hearts content but I'm not finding a site that I'm happy with. I guess I should go with a junkyard job. Can you paint trim pieces okay?

- finally, when I'm content with the body I'd like to get a paint job done. I've been reading about the roller paint job and I'm curious but would like to know more. Anyone tried that with a CRX? I don't care if it's mediocre, it'll be far better than what's going on now.

Thanks for reading my tldr post, I'll try to keep an eye on this (I'm horrible with forum monitoring) and be as fast as possible.

Pics of it tomorrow or the next day (as soon as I find a digicam)

thanks.

lets start from the beginning

you should be able to fix toe by getting an alignment. unless your talking about neg camber.. in which a front camber kit and some washers for the rear (search for info on that) should be good for you

the springs are prob rated to high. they usually lump the light crx with the same spring rate as a full size 4 door all the way up to 2000. i have a bumpy ride, but i live with it since i went cheap.

ive gotten off the fender without taking off the door. go grab the workshop manual to take a look at all the bolts ( http://www.hondacrx.co.uk/ )

trim peices would be easy to find at junk yards. be sure to grab extra clips since they break easy... or buy new trim pieces from the dealership

roller paint comes out ok.. just have to go over all the steps and wet sand when your near finish. there are some writeups on this.. just search for it.

i was feeling nice today :D

welcome to the world of hondas!

Thanks for the quick response.

It's a negative camber, so I guess I'll have to do that. I figured I'd have to do it that way.

I don't mind the bumpy ride i just feel like it's affecting my grip on the street.

Downloading that manual now. I tried to install it tonight but I couldn't get at the middle bolt at all.

I read up on the roller paint write ups, I'm just going to have to spend a lot of time actually doing it School is something of a hindrance, but I'll figure something out - probably won't paint till the spring anyway.

Thanks for the welcome :D I'm really excited to work with a different breed of fast.

Yeah bookmarked. After a quick browse through some of these posts I see a lot of posts that make me want to head:desk. I'm new to 4 cylinders but not to engines and some of the stuff I see them asking makes me die a little inside.

Yeah it was a hideous car. 4cyl 4 spd too. It put slow to shame. :-O

the camber is pretty bad I think I'm going to have to get a kit. For now I can always raise the car back up. The struts and shocks are aftermarket that came with the coil over system to the best of my knowledge.
