Default cv axles vs half shaft

okay, so i searched and not that much besides 'which half shaft for this' or 'where can i get this halfshaft' popped up, but i was searching around on diy network and about.com and from what they say, a halfshaft sounds like a cv axle.. so my question is.. whats the difference?

A half shaft is used to allow you to use axle shafts that are the same length. It goes into the trans and then bolts to the block, then the axles go in. I went to google.com and selected pictures there is a picture of a crx on honda-tech of a crx and it shows the halfshaft.

You guys have your terminology wrong, in the parts world axles are also known as half shafts. The thing you are calling a half shaft is an intermediate shaft.
