hello

got my first oil change done on an '08 LX at 4500 miles. minder was at 50%, probably nearing 40%. the dealership put mobil 1 synthetic in it.

now, prior to the trip i had looked under the hood a few weeks ago. everything still looked new aside from a little dirt.

after the change, i now have rusted looking parts.

namely:

look at everything around it. and then pow. rusted as ****.

what the hell?

i'm probably just being really paranoid, but i don't remember any visible part under my hood looking that way the last time i checked.

yah my **** got rusty real fast to. Header and EGr valve flange.
But i guess they have to. other then that its all mint.

 

If you are suggesting the dealer took your used parts out and replaced them with used parts, what would be the point? Labor costs are pretty high and there would be zero cost benefit to harvest used parts and replace them with other used parts. I think you are, as you suggest, being a little paranoid. But props for looking out and being involved in the condition of your car.

 

does anyone know what that is? its at the front of the engine bay. looks like its made out of brass or something.

edit: i am suggesting while it was in for an oil change, the tech decided he needed a new one of whatever that part is and swapped it out.

as i said before, probably just paranoia. just seeing what other people's opinions are.

 

its egr tube, that thing gets hott and rusts pretty fast.

 

i think they spilled oil on the engine or something and cleanned up with a solvent of somekind....i think.......

 

its pry the brake clean all the engines get sprayed at my dealership... gotta love honda express service

 

i put some lime away on it and cleaned it off.

minimal amounts of rust now.

i'd imagine the egr tube would be a popular "dealership theft" item, but i guess it didn't actually happen. :-P

i was thinking maybe some engine oil got on it and it sizzled to a crisp, making it look worse or something. i dunno.

either or the car is running very smooth and quiet with the mobil 1 and my paranoia has been put to rest. :-D

 

why would the want to steal the egr tube?? last time i removed one, the one of the bolts on the cat side snapped from all of the heat, trust me, no1 is gonna removed that thing and risk break a bolt on the cat.

 

mine was rust free to untill there was 100 percent humidity and my car was outside for 2 days. that did the trick for me. Gota clean it off some day.

 

yeah, they probably dropped some oil..on the engine...i still need to get my first oil change im on 40%
