That's because everybody's preaching the same **** time and time again about how 15s are best particularly in the now legendary 205/50/15 size.... rotational mass, unsprung weight and stuff that just makes all the physics nerds rally together and have a formula infested orgy.
The rest of those who trip on the basics of this are apt to agree that anything larger than 16s would be evil and ricey or something ridiculous of the sort.
The RTR DC2s ran a larger 17in. wheel at the time due to class rules and running the stupid Toyo T1-S tires. Either way, even with less than 200whp, it's possible to take advantage of the grip from the overall larger diameter tires if your setup demands something of the sort.
FWIW, some of the guys I know in Japan are running 235/40/17 fronts....

Beat me too it. I was just about to say they where forced to run a certain tire. I did read an article some time ago that RTR had wanted to run 16s and had entered the series thinking that where going to but again where forced to run the bigger wheel. If I can refind that article I will post it.

I thought the reason they ran the 17" wheel was because of tire sizes available. It wasn't that they were 'forced' to run a 17", but it just so happens a 225/45/17 was the smallest and widest tire that would work on the Type R's.
If Toyo would have made a 225/40/16, you can bet that's what tire they would have been on.
