Default Anybody got a sunroof filler piece on their CRX?

My sunroof is in pretty shitty shape, and I'm not sure if I want to get a new OEM panel and have it painted, and installed along with some new trim pieces (probably close to $400 all said and done) or if I'd rather just pick up one of those fiberglass filler pieces for $100.

Let me know what you guys think, and if anybody has the filler, some pics would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance -

ALEX

Anybody out there with the fiberglass filler piece, or who knows someone with one, who could fill me in? Thanx -

Yeah, guys...he's right. Someone must have done this, or someone knows someone who did it! They wouldn't still be selling them if nobody had done it.

I'm going to try to get this taken care of in about a week and a half, when my next paycheck comes.

i've seen guys with the lexan glass. majority of them were custom made but at a reasonable price. see if there's a race shop around you and get a qoute from them.

never hurts to try.

probally the best way to fill it in is to cut your roof off and get a non-sunroof equipped roof welded in. Any other way would eventually get shitty after time and flexing. I got a new peice from honda for mine, I got mine for around $260 I get like 15or25% off at Honda through my work, so around $300 sounds reasonable. The green CRX @ N8 had a factory panel wrapped with carbon fiber. I recomend getting a non-sunroof, roof installed. Or better yet buy an HF, much lighter! These damn Si's are so heavy!

Thanks for the input guys...the lexan piece would have to be riveted in, right? I would imagine so.

With the non-sunroof roof piece getting welded in, isn't there always a risk of cracking the welds? Where are the welds located?

Again, thanks for the help...keep it coming!

at n8 this dood had filled his in. baby blue crx w/ mad custom home made body kit. they filled it in but it eventually cracked.
Was it filled in with the fiberglass filler piece, or what did he use?

What I don't understand is this: Almost all other civics use glass sunroofs, and they DON'T crack. Even the glasstop CRX, I've never heard of them giving out, cracking, or anything else. So would a glass/lexan replacement for a CRX crack any easier?

If so, why?

I do, however, understand that Fiberglass is fairly delicate and not too flexible, so I can see where that would happen.

Thanks guys -

i agree. i will be doing this with mine once i learn how to weld.

you weld the entire roof piece in, then grind it down smooth. prime and paint and voila.

btw, welds WILL NOT crack.

fiberglass? it's actually very flexible and quite durable.

Okay, now I've heard both. Well, I guess I determined that it was sort of delicate from people's frequent breakage of f/glass body kits vs. the relatively uncommon problems with Urethane kits. But now I really don't know what to do!

I like the idea of having a lexan plug put in there...get some 10% tint put on it, and it'll make a nice 7th window. Fiberglass plug - sounds ok, but the rivets...don't know if I like that. The lexan plug would need rivets too, no?

The HF/DX roof being welded in - well, I can't weld, so I would have to have someone do it for me, and it could end up costing a whole lot...but the end result would be the best.

In fact, it would probably cost just as much as if I were to buy the new sunroof panel, have it painted, and installed. But I'd rather not do that cause it'll just rust again!!!

They also have lexan windows for the rear. (FAL Windows)

I have a complete sunroof/motor/tracks i dropped out of a parts car i will sell. It doesnt have any rust on it, but you will have to get it painted, or paint it yourself. Id like to get 70bucks plus shipping for it. It only weighs 26lbs.

Ok I have a full CRX sunroof and assembly for the si I believe thats what you call the UK 1.6 16v. + a full interior including carpets back seats the lot. If anyone is intersted and willing to pay the shipping I could let you have the lot for $300 or I will split. None is needed anymore as my CRX is now a full track car.
