please help my car makes a noise
i heard of people saying something about throw out bearings and other bearings. i just bought the car today for $1600 it has a newer motor 125k miles and 17 inch wheels eibach adjustable lowering springs. very little body work needed. factory red with metal flake. was it a good deal? i just hope i dont need a new trans. i drove it home 150 miles and it ran fine. shifts just fine. its just that noise
Did you just recently put in a new clutch?...Well, from experience, I put a new clutch in and about 600-700 miles later, that's exactly what happened to me. I fixed it by replacing the clutch..DUHHH...well, good luck..
i just got the car today but the guy said it had a new clutch. pressure plate and throwout bearing when the motor was put in 15k miles ago. it shifts fine. how difficult would it be to tackle this myself what does it require. tools etc and how long. i think i cando it i just dont know where to start.
so your car makes a scraping noise when the clutch is not engaged>????? that would make it a problem unrelated to the clutch. unless something on the clutch assembly is rubbing against the housing or something? have you removed the inspection cover?
no i havent i just bought it and got home around 9:30pm. i just ran it up and down the road its fine but it makes that noise even if if the clutch is down when im rolling but its more noticable/worse when at a stop or just letting car warm up. and for real ive never messed with motor work but i am gonna try. i need a book or something. It sounds like something needs to be lubricated. (clutch in at stop..good, clutch out and in nuetral at stop bad, clutch in and in nuetral rolling bad but not as bad

okay i double checked this morning about noise when im rolling. it never makes a noise when the clutch is engaged. it makes a noise at a stop in nuetral with clutch out and when i let off the gas when im rolling down the road i hear it too. its pretty annoying and i want to get this problem taken care of. thanks for helping out by the way.
Are you sure it's not a heat shield around the exhaust or cat or a brake rotor rubbing against the back plate? They can make noises similar to that. If your clutch is shifting fine, I'm thinking it's not the clutch. If you don't know what you're doing, take the car to a decent mechanic to diagnose.
Thats what I figured from reading stuff online and ive heard people say its not worth the effort to replace it so then i will just put in a new clutch if i have to have the transmision and axles out. i want to do it myself. hands on is the best way to learn stuff i just wish i had some advice or book to reference to if needed. i dont know what and how much to torque and how to adjust the clutch. it cant be rocket science.

But it can be a specified value. Invest in a manual or search on here.

i think its a tranny issue. i have the same problem with my car. makes a grinding noise when the clutch is not engage but once the clutch is engage sound goes away. after about 2 weeks of driving with the sound my tranny is grinding when i try to put it into gear. next its poping out of gear. now i can barely put it in 3rd and 4th. i've been searching and it seems that its the input shaft bearing that is going out and it's throwing everything else out of wack cause it is messed up. i suggest you change the input shaft bearing ASAP or you'll be looking for a new tranny like me.
I m getting confused myself. Is it the tranny or the throwout bearing? or a new clutch? where do I start? if i get my car up on ramps is it easy to mess with? just common sense and a honda book from advance auto parts? i guess i could try a new clutch first and if that didnt work try the mainshaft bearing, or should i do it all at once so i dont have to mess with it at all after that. Im pretty strapped for cash. got 2 kids. one 2mos. old and a house $car payment etc. so im probably going to tackle this myself. i just need som tips and tricks if you know what i mean.
the input shaft bearing is pretty much a task in itself. search on honda tech here there is a right up on how to take it out. i heard its not to hard but patience. try out the clutch first maybe its just the clutch who knows. if that doesn't work guess you'll have to try the input shaft bearing. spin the input shaft bearing when you do your clutch to see if it makes any noise. other then that good luck on finding your problem.
alright cool.thanks for the help...i used to live in cali by the way.actually most of my life i lived in oceanside(san diego county) antioch(bay area) and lake tahoe. i got send to va for military school for joyridin golf carts lol when i was 15 so its pretty cool to get some helpl from some one in my hometown. thanks
make that home state not town...and im gonna bug you one more time. my horn doesnt work and i need to pass inspection for i bought a horn kit and button kit.the instructions are as good as toilet paper and i was wondering if you knew anything about that stuff, i figured ground and positive. run the wires to the fuse panel and mount the button.
you wont be able to do anything putting your car on ramps. jack stands will be necessary. get a tranny jack and it makes the job a ton easier and safer. they are about $30 and an invaluable tool. chances are the sound has nothing to do with you clutch itself. its either the throwout bearing or input shaft bearing. these can be bought for minimum $ and i would go to the dealer or order from hondaautomotiveparts.com. get yourself a helmes manual and it will tell you step by step instructions including all the torque specs. this is also a necessity. do it right and you only have to do it once. grease everything the manual tells you to and you wont have random noises.
