Default Getting really bad wheel hop in 2nd and 3rd..

I have a 2000 Civic Si, with I/H/E, CTR Intake Cam, and an Exedy Stage 1 organic clutch.

I am getting pretty serious wheel hop when shifting into 2nd and 3rd at redline. It's not like a little hop, it actually hops pretty hard in both 2nd and 3rd.

What can this be from? Is it just my clutch gripping hard? Can it be my motor mounts starting to go?

Is this normal?

SCROLL DOWN A FEW POSTS. I POSTED A PIC.

So you think it's the motor mounts? Not normal to be hopping like this?

Do I need new mounts or just the inserts? How much are they and how much does it usually cost to get them installed?

I have full coilovers and a perfect alignment. Very little negative camber, if any.

How do I know if my mounts are bad.

I'm going to stop getting on it til it's fixed though. What damage could I have done from wheel hopping in 3rd for a while now?

Truth.

What mounts are you using by the way? And a set of traction bars will do wonders for you. Full-Race

EDIT: What could you damage? Suspension components, bushings, ect

I am currently running OEM mounts. Is there any way to physically know if they are bad?

When I look for a traction bar do I need one for a B-series 96-00 or are they universal for sohc and dohc motors?

If the motor mounts ARE starting to go, will using traction bars help the problem, but make it worse in the long run?

Will they help if you have bad mounts? Answer is yes, they will. BUT, it is more important to replace the mount(s) first! I am not experienced with OEM mounts but if you feel that you will hold on to this car for a while and have some extra cash laying around, I'd invest in some aftermarket mounts.

But to fix the problem now, I'd say to look around the mount area and brackets. Make sure all bolts are tightened to spec. Even the rear mount if you can get a good look. I have heard that that rear "T" bracket/mount has caused many wheel hop problems in the past.

Alright I'll check to see if they are tight tomorrow.. I'm pretty sure they are.

IF it's not the mounts that are bad, what else could it possibly be? It only does it when I'm redlining and shifting fast. Doesn't do it at all in 4th.

I don't wanna go out of my way and waste money if it's not the motor mounts so I just wanna be sure.

my 92 hatch got wheel hop due to bad tie rods, have your inner/outer tie rods inspected, makes quite the difference, also, like they said, aftermarket mounts and traction bar. Aftermarket mounts also make the engine bay look clean

True.. Now I have to find a shop that can do this for me.

How much do they usually charge for inspection and replacement of the tie rods and/or motor mounts? Should I find a speed shop instead of going to Honda service?

Bro its easy. Your better off jacking the car up, grabbing a flash light and start inspecting. Check all the bushings you see. Make sure they are not cracked and check for leaks around there. See if the tie rod is loose, if it has any play when you jerk on it lightly. If you have a buddy or someone that is around, ask them to wiggle the wheel while your under there and see if anything happens, any noise anything.

I don't have a garage or a drive way at my house and I can still get this done.

As for shops- I wouldn't go to Honda for this. But I would take a ride to a shop and just say hey can you check out my mounts real quick and explain your problem. He might give you some more insight about it.

How does a shop check motor mounts usually? Is it something that can be physically seen or do they have to pull it and inspect it?

It won't hurt to take a gander at it while its still installed. Just look for any cracks or bolts loose all around the mount. It's also easy to remove the driver and passenger side mounts if you feel like getting dirty. But just head down to a local speed shop and talk to some people there. I'm sure they'll give you the best advice. When I go to a shop I usually like to look for the parts myself and get them to do the labor. Comes out cheaper.

I have the same car with similar mods. Mine only does it when its wet out, otherwise it's fine. Just so you know if it does it all the time its not normal.

So can that be the problem? I felt the broken parts and they feel soft and rubbery. Aren't they supposed to be metal?

Nope.

And that's not exactly a motor mount. It's more of a stabilizer.

Search 'DIY motor mount' in Google. It's a cheap fix and works very well. I know a number of people, including myself (driver's side only), who have done this, all with good results.

So could this be causing the wheel hop problem?

that mount being in that condition wouldn't give you the amount of wheel hop you're talking about.

you don't seem too comfortable with working on your car, but i'd have to think it would be your mounts as well.

and they are rubber, the one on the lower right looks to be torn.

i'm guessing you didn't do the clutch yourself, was the wheel hop present before the clutch change? a bit of wheel spin from 1-2 is normal, but if you're seeing a lot from 2-3 with the level your car is modded, i'd assume it was the mounts.

ac mount isnt a motor mount.

96-00 have the worst liqiud filled driver side mount. it breaks/cracks all the time. i am willing to bet thats it.

but yes get new mounts inserts wont fix the driver side

you can order just the driver side mount from hasport or innovative.
