Default GFN's Build Thread: The Rebuildup! 56k beware!!

So since everyone on this site has a build thread lol, i thought id get into the action as well. This is my rebuild up thread. Heres the backstory: I bought the car 2 years ago for 300bucks from a buddy who needed money to avoid jail. The car had a Wings West body kit, a6/z6 mini me, i/h/e and an awesome rattle can paint job. 3months after buying the car the mini me decides to take a **** on me, instead of wasting money on another junk motor or trying to rebuild the sohc I piece together my 1st of 3 B series swaps. Yes i've had 3 in this car...youll find out why later. Anyways, I pick up a B18a, jdm B16 cable trans from an integra xsi, Injo mounts and all the accesories to put it into the car.

The black rattle can paint job just isnt working for me either. One night while hanging out at the local meeting spot talking about what color to paint it I let my mouth override my *** lol. It was originally going to go silver, but im one to not want something that someone else has locally, so were standing there and a silver crx rolls by. There goes the silver paint idea...thats where my big mouth comes into play. These now infamous words came from my mouth "I'm going to paint this bitch BRIGHT PINK!!!" All my buddies started calling no ***** saying that I didnt have it in me to rock a pink honda. Boy were they wrong!! A few days later I brought the car back out and she was pink. Pics below:

While at a kegger the car is keyed along the driver side from the tailights to the headlight. expletiveing haters!! 3months go by and B18a decides it has had enough abuse from me and the previous owner and throws a rod. I pull the motor apart to discover cylinder walls that are fried beyound belief (sorry no pics). I dont have any money at the time to put a motor in the car so it sits for 6 months. I finally get around to putting another motor in the car. I pick up a complete drop out for 500bucks, 91 b18a, LS trans. This motor last 3 weeks!!! Coming home from a buddies house about 40miles away the oil pump locks up on me. Bye Bye motor #2!! Tired of junk motors and pretty much tired of this car I let it sit for a year until now...

1/17/08: Tired of having not driven the car in over a year I decide to do something about it. First things first, lets get a motor in it. I source a JDM B20B from http://www.tigerjapanese.com (excellent choice). 515bucks shipped to my dads friends shop.

1/20/08: I get the bright idea of boosting the B20 just for ***** and giggles to see if I can get 250+whp reliably out of it. A friend of mine has a turbo kit, but the manifold is for a D series, no big deal to me!! I go pick it up, consist of a t3/t4 .50ar, greaddy bov, tial knockoff wastegate, Intercooler and all piping

1/22/08: Another friend of mine tells me that he has a ramhorn manifold that he bought but couldnt use due to it hitting his core support on his DA integra. The manifold is brand new and just what im looking for

1/23/08: The motor arrives!!

1/25/08: I get to finally see my motor, I work long hours and havent had the chance to see it. I discover that the motor is super clean and even comes with parts that I dont need like the intake and exhaust manifolds, distributor, alternator. Just means ill sell that stuff to buy other goodies. Oh did I mention that it came with the P8R head!!!!

1/25/07: After heading home from seeing the motor I decide to buy some more goodies, next thing on the list is a Walbro 255 lph fuel pump. Quickly snag one of these up off of ebay.

1/27/08: Today I went and picked up my DSM 450's. These should supply adequate amounts of fuel for my setup.

1/28/07: It's becoming a daily habit by now of buying something new. Today I ordered my Innovative Racing front crossmember from http://www.swapshopracing.com This will allow more clearance for the downpipe and also allow me to run a half sized radiator for even more space. Couple added bonuses are the 18lbs in weight difference between this piece and the stock crossmember and I can bolt a set of traction bars up to this later on down the road.

1/29/08: Ordered a 3 inch downpipe to finish off the turbo kit.

2/1/08: Innovative Racing Crossmember and Walbro 255 pump arrive today.

2/3/09: I realized taht my stock cluth just wasnt going to hold the power I plan on putting down with the motor. So after some researching and reading, I decided to go with a XTD stage 4 6Puck unsprung setup.

2/4/08: After looking over the engine bay and test fitting some stuff on, it comes to my attention that the battery will be in the way of my charge pipes. So I picked up a battery relocation kit from Jegs. Putting the battery in the rear of the car will help free up some room and make the engine bay look that much cleaner.

2/5/08: I was browsing through the local craigslist site when I came across a guy selling a used Edelbrock Victor X intake manifold w/tb. I quickly picked these up for a very good price. Should help get things flowing.

2/8/08: Today the car was towed to my dads, friends shop to undergo its makeover. Pulled the motor out of her today, swapped some stuff over to the new motor. Im debating a wire tuck now that I have the engine out of the car...idk though. Also picked up a set of Tenzo R seats w/5 point harnesses for 120bucks from a friend of mine.

2/9/08: To keep an eye on what the motor and turbo are doing, I picked up a set of Autometer gaguges. Boost, Oil Pressure and Air Fuel should help me monitor the setup.

<2/10/08: Today I come home to discovere that my XTD 6Puck clutch and 3in downpipe have arrived. I also picked up a resurfaced flywheel off my buddy in exchange for my stock one. Now I can put the motor back into the car and see how she runs.

2/11/08: I realized that the stock fan wasnt going to work due to clearance issues, so I picked up a 10in slim fan and 92-95 civic dual core half size radiator. The blown b18 is yanked from the car finally!!

2/12/08: Today was the busiest day so far in this build. I got the motor all prepped to go in the car tommorow morning. I had to take all the exhaust and intake manifold studs from the b18 head and put them onto the b20 head, some reason there was only a couple on the b20. Put my B&M FPR onto the Edelbrock manifold. Hooked up the gauge for the fuel pressure. Installed new clutch cable.

2/14/08: Today was a hectic day to say the least. Got the motor into the car. Had to relocate the fuel filet to clear the intake manifold and allow the fuel line to bolt to the rail. Got the exhaust bolted back up, had to modify the dipstick to clear the hood since the b20 dip stick is longer then that of the b18. While filling the radiator up we discovered the water tube on the back of the block was leaking. So I gotta change that in the morning and finally get to fire it up!!

2/15/08 Its alive!! Finally got to start the car up, it fired up on the 3rd attempt. Let me tell you, it sounds nasty...in a good way!! Had to replace a water hose, that makes every hose on the motor brand new lol!! Went and bought my battery so I can relocate that tommorow morning. I cant wait to drive this thing!!

2/16/08: The battery is relocated to the rear of the car. Found a piece of diamond plate laying around the shop that serves as the mounting bracket for the box. I didnt want to sit the box right in the middle of the hatch area. I put it on the passenger side by the tailights and strut mount. I start mocking the seat rails up for fabbing to make them fit on the tenzo r seats.

Haha new paint color is House of Kolor Pink Neon!! Its def staying pink, having it tuned by Jeff Evans on Hondata in a few weeks hopefully. Got to break the clutch in 500miles, get hondata and schedule the appointment with him. Hoping to make 275+whp and 280+ft/lbs

Yeah im not a fan of the ssac myself, but for the price I couldnt really complain. It is a newer one that has the bracing already on it, im going to reweld all the welds. Im already looking at new manifolds, but to find a ramhorn or mini ram that will fit in a crx is a pain in the *** esp with a B swap.

As for hood clearance issues, I dont see a problem? B20 is exact same as LS and I never had an issue with that. I did find once on a crx w/z6 swap that my hood hit the valve cover which was extremely odd. Ill keep you updated if I run into problems once I bolt the hood back on it though

Wow its been forever since I updated this, let me get you up to date:

2/17/08: Today we made the brackets that will hold the seats into place. Started by measuring the distance between the bracket, then took a piece of flat metal cut just enough to bolt onto the seat. Then we bolted the stock bracket onto the flat metal, and back into the car.

2/18/08: Today i finally got to bring the car back home. Took it for a test drive before hand, doesnt get traction til 4th gear. Should be fun when its boosted haha!!

2/19/08: My dual core radiator and slim fan arrived today. They look to be in great shape. This should help keeping the big bore motor nice and cool.

2/22/08: After a weeks worth of waiting my Boomslan jumper harness has finally arrived. Hopefully I can knock out the wiring within the next week.

2/24/08: So I got bored today and painted my valve cover. A can of primer, Safety Pink Neon paint and a can of clear coat later and here she is...oh yeah did my own "DOHC VTEC" valve cover:

I also put my new Innovative Racing crossmember on. It wasnt as bad as I thought it was going to be, 6 bolts was all that held it in. Look at the difference in size and shape on these. The new one clears up a lot of room

2/25/08: The throttle cable and radiator bracket that I ordered arrived finally.

2/28/08: KMS map sensor blockoff plate has arrived, now I can use the 62mm TB like I originally planned on. Also ordered my dumptube and Rev Hard turbo manifold. Hopefully this solves my turbo fitment issues

3/7/08: The dumptube finally arrives

3/10/08 Well my turbo fitment issues seem to be solved. The revhard log arrived today and its substancially smaller then the ramhorn that I first had. Hopefully I can get the turbo on this upcoming weekend.

3/11/08: Hondata s300 is finally installed into the obd1 pPR4 ecu. I picked up my oil lines while I was at the shop. Hopefully the turbo will be on this weekend or next!

3/17/08 I came across a hell fo a good deal on a set of RRC550 injectors so I picked them up quickly insted of using the dsm 450s

3/17/08: The car is driven to a friends house to have the obd1 wiring conversion done. I suck at wiring and im not ashamed to admit it lol. New turn signal, bumper and license plate lights are wired in as well, due to my dog litterally chewing them off the car. The entire engine harness is going to be gone through to check for any loose or open wires that need to be resoldered and fixed. Also the car is going to be checked over to try and figure out why my cluster fuse keeps popping. While its at his house the new throttle cable will be installed as well.

3/25/08: It took a little longer then expected but all the wiring issues are finally worked out. Due to having a stock tune on the hondata and rc5550 injectors in the car, it ran like **** to say the least. So I went to my friends house to hook his laptop up to my ecu and tuned the injectors down and fiddled around with the hondata. We went ahead and set up my 2 step launch control, its amazing lol.

4/14/08: Things are a little behind schedule at this point, but I did manage to get the oil pan tapped today.

6/1/08: The heated springs are taken off the car and replaced with a set of Suspension Technique springs. The Suspension Technique springs are put on only to find out that they make the car sit way to low. We also discover that one of the heated springs were broke

6/2/08: A friend of mine has a set of ebay springs laying around that he never used. I pick them up just for a short term fix.

6/6/08: Disaster strikes!! Heading to my friends house to put on the new springs, make it onto the highway when all of a sudden I hear BOOM!! Pull to the side of the road, pop the hood to discover my cross member has come unbolted from the car and is ruined. Theres 250bucks out the window, added to the 165 dollar tow bill!!

Look at the radius rods for gods sake

6/11/08: The new Innovative Racing cross member arrives and is installed.

6/14/08: Well today I went 2 steps backwards, I picked up a Full Race cross member with traction bar setup for 200bucks. I could not pass up a deal like that. So the brand new Innovative will be coming back off and replaced with this new setup

6/20/08: Put the traction bar setup on, only to run into issues. The crank pulley hits the driver side traction bar.

6/24/08:Sent my stock crank pulley to the machine shop to have it machined down to just a single pulley. Eliminating the slots for a/c and power steering. This will not only clear up room for the traction bars but will shave weight off the pulley which in return should free up a couple HP

7/8/08 Today was a somewhat busy day for the crx. Started off by going and picking up my crank pulley from one shop that didnt even touch it, only to take it to another shop where they shaved it down for me. Picked up my GM 3 bar map sensor as well.

7/9/08: Well it was about 1am in the morning, I couldnt sleep and boredom had struck. Drove to wal-mart and picked up some high heat paint to paint my crank pulley to stop it from rusting. Also got the bright idea to paint my innercooler to make it harder at night for people to see.

Looking good... minus pink

What made the original crossmember fall off? Not torqued properly?

Haha the pink was a 3 year old joke, plus I have seen 9 pink cars in 2 weeks its getting quite rediculous around here. New paint is on the way.

The cross member broke off due to me bottoming out on shitty ohio roads and actually shearing off the bolts that held it on. The full race bar is a much better design as it sits at the same height the stock one did compared to the innovative one sitting about an inch lower then the bumper.

7/9/08: The shaved down crank pulley is put on the car. Clearance issues are no longer a problem.

Nice build!

I hear ya on the Ohio roads issue lol... I'm in Cincy and we have potholes that could swallow a small child lol. Needless to say, my project isn't going to be driving around here very much.

7/10/08: After a rough ride home I finally say enough is enough and order a set of new struts. KYB AGX's are chosen as the canidate to replace the stock blown struts. Summit Racing had them in stock and ready to ship out for 90 bucks a side, not a bad deal honestly. Next on tap is putting them on then getting front end aligned.

7/11/08: KYB AGX's arrive less then 24 hours after purchasing. Hopefully these solve the rough ride issues

I like progress im seeing, but why cheap out on the turbo manifold and wastegate, there are plenty good deals in the FI for sale forum and sponser's marketplace not only that but it would look alot better and you wont ever have to worry about it cracking...but anyway its a pretty nice build so far keep it up

Umm I didnt cheap out on the manifold. I'm running a RevHard Cast Log manifold, that wont crack! The ebay one is gone. You ever tried fitting a manifold into a B series swapped crx without hacking your car up to hell and back?
