Ok, question here, I have a b16'ed CRX, and i get a CEL whenever i put it in reverse. I have to use reverse everyday getting in and out of my driveway.

The guy before that had the car told me to flip the ignition and pop the clutch, this way, resetting the car, so the CEL would go off.

My question is, will this have negative effects on my engine?

What could cause a CEL in reverse?

I have the same happening to me. The shop said that it's probably a bad reverse switch. For now he just disconnected it from the butt connectors. No reverse lights, not CEL light either.

 

Oh also, is that the way you reset your ecu?

 

no disconnect batt and ecu fuse under hood.let sit for at least 10 mins then reconnect.

 

10 minutes is a bit too long. 1 is good enough.
