Default How many of you drive a B-series GT42/GT42R turbo on the street?

Other than racing @ the track where antilag eliminates lag, how does the 42 respond on a 1.9-2.0L B series engine if you feel like some "spirited" driving?

been in a supra with a 42, but thats a bad comparison. I guess its going to be shitty to try and have any fun with it on the street isnt it? Even with 255-60-15 DR's

I wish i could swing it and have the 42 for track days, and have an entirely different quick change turbo kit and have a t3 manifold and turbo for the street days. hahaha

yea, even with 9psi springs in the gates..once boost comes up, it comes on so damn hard and violent it just spins the tires like crazy.

So much for my hopes of having a competitive track car and fun-street car, haha

Guess i need to go AWD to have the best of both worlds.

GT4202R on a buddies GTR still isn't any fun on the street, even with better traction than a FWD car it's still so laggy it's retarded.

thats the only advantage to a honda. my car made full boost between 5000-5500 and that still left me with another 4500-5000 rpm or rev'ing

a track car is always going to make a shitty street car, and a street car is always going to make a shitty track car lol

Yeah but I could imagine that second 4500-5000 rpm goes up in tyre smoke.

absolutely. hence the reason we race them at the racetrack, and are telling him his hopes of having a 42r street car are pretty much going to be pointless lol

might as well just get an S372 and make another 100+ horsepower

The 40r and bushing 40 are still very streetable with a divided manifold. I have a ton of street cars that run these and do dual purpose fairly well. The bushing 4088 is so cheap, its right around 800.00 with a custom 1.06 housing.

That's about the same as my buddies car. Full boost at 5500, and shifts at just under 10K. Even though you can get traction in 3rd gear at high boost, the lag just kills any of the fun factor of driving it on the street to be honest. He's probably swapping to a 4088R for next summer, should still be good for mid 10's turned up

The bushing 4088 will get you into the 9's with a decent powerband. For the money i really like the turbo. Was seeing 30-35psi by 6k with an ls crank and carrying power till cloes to 10k. The turbine wheel and compressor wheels are slightly larger than the 4088r, and the spool time is nearly the same.

Do you think the 4088 will push a GTR into the 9's? Weighs 3200 pounds with him in it, and on drag radials it will cut a 1.5-1.6 second 60-foot.

I have a gt4202 journal bearing on my 85mm ls/vtec and it sucks! Its kinda fun cuz your turbo spools so loud......but thats about it. Im making 550whp on 20psi with 110 in the tank and the lag just makes it no fun at all. Every other car on the street kills you cuz of the lag unless you're on the highway. I thought it was going to be so fun but it turned out to be a big disappointment. Although I shouldnt hate too much cuz I have eagle rods and an ls trans which blows! This year im switching to a t4/gt35r and a b16 trans. Should be much more fun. My gt42 is for sale!

I hear ya! I dont want slicks tho cuz I go 150mph everytime I take the car out thats why i built it to run bikes on the freeway. So I def dont want slicks the car doesnt see the track cuz I dont feel like breaking it I just dont have the time I used to with this new aviation job and making headers. The t4/gt35 will be a kick *** combo with that b16 trans. I searched and didnt find anything on the t4/gt35r does anyone run it and what a/r should I go with?
