Its really your choice, but if you go turbo I'd suggest a rebuild on that engine... 130k miles may be risky to run turbo on, but then again new f22s are VERY cheap, and can be replaced easily.

But no vtec on a turboed powerplant is a good thing. Is there any way he could get the H23 and a turbo????

As long as the cam profiles are stock, it should run well.

If you are going to be choosing one or the other, I would say go with the H22. You have more potential and aftermarket support with this motor. A basic turbo kit on a F22 will get you only a little more power then you will get by putting in the H22. Now down the road you can build that H22 to be a monster. While it is fun building a SOHC to whoop some ***, if you are looking for product availability, aftermarket support, and a build up in the future, go with the DOHC. If you simply want something that is going to be fun to drive, and are not worried about a bigger build up in the future, turbo the F22. Although, the H22 will be more reliable than a boosted F22.

H22, for sure, since you have so many miles on the original engine. If you're on a budget, you should keep the engine, spend money on good pistons and rods, and then turbo the hell out of it.

He has no need of new pistons/rods, just some high quality rings to replace his older ones.

I think you should do the h23 or h22, and then turbo! IMO Just save your money for the turbo, after you swap the motor, it's worth it.

I couldnt justify spending >$3K for less than 60hp gain with an H22. I got > 100 hp gain with the turbo and love it. Plan on driving the crap out of it and will think about the H22 when this one dies. Only thing I'll have to change is the turbo manifold.

BTW, anyone who worrys about motor needing to be built to handle a turbo...I had 113K miles on mine before the turbo. Dynoed great tons of pulls in 3 hours no overheating, no signs of struggling. The low compression of the F22 takes boost with ease.

i hope you are joking....they are volk te-37 and they say Ray's Engineering right on them...just so you know Rays aren't a brand exactly...

and i've also heard that the h23 can handle more boost than the h22...is this true?...

Well I made up my mind and decided not to spend any more money and just to sell my my car by the end of the year and get the WRX thanks for the comments but a test drive of the WRX with speed and the way it handle is enough.
