amp to speakers 98 civic
hi. I have a sony xplode amp that I need to connect to my front speakers in a 98 civic EX. I was wondering how complicated this process would be and what kind of equipment I would need. If it isn't too complicated, can someone please create an outline of the steps for me? Thanks
Main things that you will need either way is going to be an amp kit(Power wire, remote wire, ground, RCA's, and speaker wire.) If its for an aftermarket deck, you would have to run the power wire to where you want the amp mounted. Run RCA's and the remote wire from the deck to the amp, also speaker wires hooked up from the front speakers. Easiest way would be to connect the speaker wires to the wires that are going away from the deck to the speakers. Then you just hook everything up, and tune the amp and your rockin'!
I'm trying to install the SONY XM-2200GTX 2/1 XPLOD Channel Amplifier and connect it to Alpine Type-R speakers. The headunit is one of the newer Pioneer ones with colors..PB something. I dont have box on me. Also I have the RCA wires (I think...they're red and white wires..2 of each) installed under my passenger seat. Would that save me a lot of trouble? Thanks

It will same some time if the amp will fit under the pass seat, probably not a lot.
Your amp will need a power lead, [main power] directly from the batt., 8ga will work.
The amp will need to be grounded, [use 8ga also] keep the ground as short as possible and ideally ground to the cars floor pan, make sure grounding surface is clean and free of paint, seat and seat belt bolts work well or any bolt/stud that is in the floor pan will work, only drill a hole if absolutely necessary.
The amp will need a "control" lead, this lead will run from the HU, [amp control] to the amp, it can be run with the RCAs, maybe it's with the RCAs under the seat.
The amp will need a signal from the HU, only one set of the RCAs under the seat are needed, as it is only a 2ch amp.
Last but not least, you will need to get the signal, [output] from the amp to the speakers, you will need to run speaker leads, [16ga] into the doors to the speakers, [x-overs if they are component Type Rs].
Although it is easier to just run the amps speaker leads to behind the HU and connect them to the stock speaker leads in the OEM radio harness and connect the stock speaker leads to the speakers in the doors, it is NOT the proper way to do it.
The stock speaker leads are OK up to 30 - 50 watts RMS at the most, you have a 2x200W RMS into 4 ohms amp. and although you do not need all 200W a side, your Type R speakers are 90 - 110 watts, [depending on model] well over the max 50W the stock speaker leads can handle.
