best oil pan / baffle for a k20(a2)
I have read some posts about pressure dropping and using an aftermarket oilpan or baffled oil pan. Did anybody test anything? DOES THE MUGEN PAN OR HYTECH BAFFLE WORK? Thanks!
don't think they sell the whole pan, just the baffle kit, which you have to install yourself (or get a pro to install for you). I think the kit costs about $180-200, or at least it did a few years ago when I bought mine.
Oh, FYI, installation is pretty easy. Just have to remove the pan, drill a few holes, and then pop-rivet the baffles in place, using a high temp silicone to seal the rivets/holes. If I remember correctly, Hytech even includes the silicone and a paper template for locating and marking the rivet hole locations.

thanks maxi this is useful. So you don't have any problems on long fast left turns like most k20's do? does hytech have a trapdoor between the pan and the chain?
thanks!
thanks!
I'm running the Hytech baffle on my time attack car as well and have no isssues with oil pressure. John at hytech knows his chit.
Yes the Hytech baffles have a trap preventing oil from running up the timing chain, and no issues whatsoever with long lefthanders. Mosport is my home track and Turns 2 and 4 are both long very fast lefthanders and we have no pressure issues in those corners (or any others).

Interesting! I didn't know Andrie was producing parts now. Nothing on their site. Pics of said oil pan and baffling por favor?

I went with the mugen pan. People who datalogged found that the motor was losing oil on left hand turns. So the oil was running back up the timing chain cover, not up the shallow side of the pan like previous motors.
I haven't noticed any oil pressure losses on turns, but in all honesty, If the turn is severe enough for that to be a concern, I'm probably more worried about lifting than I am about oil

We use the Hytech baffles with our own addition to the Timing chain area. One of the problems we found in the K 20 engines was cavitation and oil aeration created by the timing chain. We have never had another oil pressure or starvation problem since 2004.
We learned a lot from an imported Japanese racing K-20 engine that had been over rev-ed, mis-shifted and generally thrashed forever! and was in perfect condition whem pulled apart. No fancy rods, and the thing had been turbo'd!
