Default D16Y7 and D16Y8 what are the differences...

I was told that there are parts that are swappable between the Y7 and the Y8. Like the injectors, the Distributor, and the Valve Cover. Is this true?

I'm not sure, but I do know that you can swap the VTEC head off of the y8 and have a more powerful engine than a stock d16y8. Not sure about the procedure, but I'm sure if you search around you'll find it.

Good luck...

I know that the Y7 is slow, and for some reason everyone keeps telling me that. But the question I asked had nothing to do with the horsepower of the Y7 or that the Y7 is non VTEC. I am asking if parts from the Y7 are the same on the Y7 and the Y8. Like the Distributor, the Injectors, the Valve Cover, stuff like that.

D16y7 are good motors after a little work and some D16y8 parts like Trans, intake manifold, clutch and flywheel header and CAI . It will keep up B16 with I/H/E or beat them. If you want more power out of the non-Vtec go TURBO. I just installed a A'pexi turbo and it is fast. I raced a JDM B18C in a 98 HB with slicks and keep up with no problem and I had 17" rims with street tiers. Turbo at 5 PSI that’s good I love my non-Vtec.

The blocks are almost identical! The y8 has a knock sensor the y7 doesnt. They both have the same fuel injectors, all d and b series honda motors have 240cc injectors. The dist is most likely the same also, although the y8 of course has a real head while the y7 has a pos non-vtec head. The y7 has the lame intake manifold while the y8 has a real one. The valve covers are the same..you can swap those. Or you can use a valve cover off a 92-95 z6 that will work too.

Almost every part between the two is the same other then the head and intake manifold.

Wait a sec, so now what's your entire setup? This sounds interesting...the only other Turbo'd D16y7 I've heard of is RoaringTurtle's, in his hatch...I think he has the Greddy kit.

Fill me in!! Thanks

Yes, taking the head from a D16Z6/Y8 and putting it on ANY non-vtec SOHC 1.6L block is called a mini-me. Very possible, lots of people do it. Do a search for mini-me and you'll find lots of info.
