header is long. what to do?
My header seems a shade longer than the orig mani + downpipe
I have an incurable ex leak from the bottom of the header/head mating.
Is it possible/advisable to take up the slack with EM gasket(s)?
OR
option #2
my downpipe does not have a bracket to hang it from the block (the rear hanger, nor the front one) like the orig pipe does. What is the best way to locate where to weld one?

take it to a muffler shop and have them shorten your exhaust to the right length. it shouldnt cost much at all. then have them weld some sort of bracket in(or cut the old one off and re-use it), you probley only need one in the rear.
so did you just do a swap or is this just a new header?
edit: I just realized if its only a half inch or so you may be able to get away with scooting the entire exhaust back, its mounted with rubber hangers and you could try pulling the hangers back so the exhaust can be pulled with it.
its worth a shot if its close.

I guess the issue is the lack of the hanger.
so I guess the best way for the shop to know where to place the hanger is to take my old EM and downpipe so they can be assembled there and compared to the header.
this is not a new swap or header. I am taking the header off to wrap it so I was going to work on this issue at the same time

Are you talking about the part on the header that bolts to the back of the engine? If so you do noot have to bolt that back up it wont hurt anything.

even though the only thing supporting the exhaust from the rear of cat to the head... is the head bolts?

neither of my cars have it. I have not had any cracks in my headers so it seems ok to me. It should probably be used but I am not worried about it.

it is jdm because it is jdm
that is why it is a D15B (no 2, 8, or any other number)
why did I put a header on it?
I got a good deal on one and it matches with the shorty I have on it too
plus I get 53+MPG , do you?
I also get more hp than a d15b2
are you just wanting to get into a "mine's bigger, and better" contest?
dont worry, I have no delusions of higher performance than a d16, much less any bigger engine
ask the other guys here, (or use google) you will learn of the differences
besides I plan on doing a mpfi swap along with other stuff when I can get to it
so why not use the header when I get it
why are you so quick to question?

Oh, I have a D15B2. Doing a header on that with DPFI is a waste of time and will most likely cost you fuel economy.
I get 47MPG + Hwy
I was just curious.
What makes you have more horse power? Just curious. We both have 1.5 litres and 2 injectors. What's the difference?

I am fairly new to the Honda game, been a german tuner for a long time. I gotta call BS on you having a JDM D15B
D15B
VTEC
Found in:
1991-1999 Honda Civic VTi EG4 (Japanese Market)
1992-1998 Honda CRX VXi EG1 (Japanese Market)
Displacement : 1493 cm³
Bore and Stroke : 75 mm X 84.5 mm
Rod Length : 137 mm
Compression : 9.3:1
Power : 128 hp (95 kW) @ 5800 rpm & 102 ft·lbf (14.1kg/m) @ 5200 rpm
Redline : 7200 rpm
Fuel Cut : 7411 rpm
Valvetrain : SOHC VTEC
Head Code : P08
Fuel Control : OBD-1 MPFI
So, you took off the vtec head and the MPFI injection? Just put in the bottom end basically? I think you're a lil JDM happy.

Not sure about the causes of better mpg.
I know the JDM has slightly higher compression.

No
it was a long block swap
This is exactly why I note it is a non-vtec model , to negate no-it-all's that have more hubris, than research (see the 1st line of your post)
There are both vtec and normal d15b's. look more and talk less
please cut down on the amphetamines too, it seems to make you a little Chevy-ish

Whoa! Calm down! Just curious. Christ. Not trying to show how great I am by any means. I am trying to understand why someone would do that.
Me being fairly new to the tuner market doesn't mean I am new to cars. Christ, I am in the industry and have been for a long, long time.
Congrats on swapping a long block onto your awesome car. Enjoy.

No, you were being a smart-a and telling me what a waste of time what I had done was.
And at best you were saying I was not smart enough to know what I put in my car or at worst calling me a liar. Your posts speak for themselves

Even though you claim to have been in the industry a long time, apparently you havent been on the planet for a long time or you would not be such an adolescent in your behavior.

I have nothing to prove to you at all. I was wondering why anyone would do that. That's about it.
Keep hurling insults over the internet. It makes you look great.

To get back on your orig. topic.
What brand of header is it? If it is some no name cheap unit you might have problems with the flange not being flat. Even if it was too long you should still be able to make a tight seal on the head (if the flange is straight), but the rest of the exhaust might get pushed back a bit.
Measure your header flance using a straight edge to make sure its flat.
You can try to mount the header first, without it connecting to the exhaust. Then Bolt the Exhaust up to the collector.

thank you
yes I have my concerns about the flange.
good guess , it is a lo-cost header,
I did not want to spend bookoo bucks till I had done the other upgrades.
I guess I will take it to a shop and get it re faced
I suppose I will be putting the orig manny on to drive it to the shop.
I hope the shop can do it same day so I can just use the existing gaskets as a temp till I put new ones on with the refaced header
