Read the rule book and when you're finished doing that, then read it again. It will tell you what you can and can't do to the car. Showroom stock doesn't allow many mods, so make sure before you spend any money that you know it's legal.

Why is reading sooooooooooooooo difficult these days..
Is it that people are getting lazy or dont have time?
Id read read and read some more, before asking. Not everyone has the same opinion of what your asking. Better to know what variety is out there, and there area alot of them... than to listen to a few and miss something important.

Yes there is definitely benefit from running performance adjustable shocks even on a car with stock springs. The only reason that i can think of running stock springs is if it is absolutely mandated buy the class rules that you run (stock class autocross for example).
If you are not limited by the rules to run stock springs, I can't think of a single reason why you would because there are so many performance springs available for really cheap money that it will make an even bigger difference to the car. Whether you use a coil-over sleeve system or a fixed perch design, that will make a really big improvement on the car at not much money.
Run stock springs in a performacne setting and you will hate them and have to drive and adapt around them but if required by the rules, then at least all of your compoetition will be hamstrung the same way. A decent set of performance springs and good dampers will make a night and day difference to your car if it ever gets pushed to any level. If you must run stock springs, run good adjustable shocks with them but changing the springs for will reall increase the performance capability of the whole package.

i agree with lee, there definately is a benefit. more than likely your stock shocks are blown anyways, and the nice thing is you can change the stiffness front-back with a set of adjustable shocks and really do a lot along with tire pressures. there is so much adjustability between those two options even before you start throwing new springs and swaybars into the equation that it could take an entire season to find a perfect setup.
i love my tokicos on my stock-sprung 94 miata. i run ES at autocrosses, and the car handles wonderfully for what it is. i use the shocks to get a pretty good setup and fine-tune with tire pressure, and the car will do pretty much what i ask it to rather well. yes, springs COULD help but then getting the perfect setup would take more time. not to mention, the car is also a daily driver and i don't want/need anything too harsh for the street, either. hence why i'm remaining in stock class.
