Default Car is back at Honda

I took the car to Honda for the 3rd & 4th gear issues. I have already had the synchro's replaced once. Also had some minor rattles and a "Check Fuel Cap" warning that likes to pop up whenever it so pleases.

Also getting the oil changed. I love how this Honda will accept coupons for a 16.95 oil change from a dealership in Texas.

I will update in regards to the 3rd & 4th gear problems.

So I'll be damned if my local dealership gives me a call and says the following:

"Mr. ____ , I'm calling you to see if you will authorize our Tech's to drop your transmission and look at the synchro's we installed. You will be liable for payment for the labor hours of them dropping the transmission."

Well basically that has set me off. I have called Honda of America to have them file a claim. I should be getting a call back from someone soon.

Anyways, the guy at the local dealership said that they want to check to see if the part is defective, or if I missed a shift. The only expletiveing reason I miss a shift is due to 3rd and 4th gear not engaging when I try to put it in those gears. I've tried to reason with them and have them replace my old tranny fluid with the new Honda MTF. However, they will not have any of it.

So I will chime in as soon as I hear back from Corporate. What the expletive is a warranty for if they won't uphold it.

The Techs want your money. See the advisor could care less. He gets paid commission off the value of the deal whether it's warranty or not. The TECH however gets paid crap for warranty/recall work.

They won't get a dime out of me until my warranty has expired or the problem is due to my own negligence while under warranty.

To quote Leonidas..."Give them nothing, but take from them everything!!!" Yeah don't pay a dime bro. I might be getting my fluid changed soon, hopefully that will bandaid the issue until they come out with a real fix.

I'm a dealer tech...

I don't even replace synchros anymore- I replace the ENTIRE transmission. The tech will be able to do this. Every time I replace a synchro/gear set/etc and it comes back for either that same problem again, or something different, Honda doesn't want to pay for it again saying it was my fault. Now, I just replace the entire assembly and can blame Honda

Well I received a call from a claims rep from Honda Corporate. He will be calling my local dealership to get their side of the story, and will call me back tomorrow with further details. Will keep this updated as I hear things back from the corporate office.

Well I have got a call back from Corporate Honda.

I will be taking my car back to my local dealership for a diagnostic on the tranny. That will be covered by Honda Corporate, as well as a rental car, if needed. That diag will take place to try to replicate the problem. Assuming they can replicate the problem, then I am sure Corporate will give me a call back and guide me through the next steps they will take.

The claims rep (named Kai) told me that he is going to do what he can to help get my tranny fixed. I have mentioned to him about the MTF change, which he took half-hearted I believe. However, this guy seems willing to want to get my problem resolved.

I will chime in after the diag is performed.

Do you know what they did to correct it...? has anyone personally taken the tranny apart and found what caused the problem... does honda know the problem and just stalling?

Well the dealership has my car. Took it in this morning. They have not called me in regards to the status...my guess is they didn't even touch it today.

On a lighter note...the rental they gave me was an Extended Cab Dodge Ram...with the HEMI motor. Time to go muddin.

I will chime in once they give me some concrete information regarding the tranny.

On another side note...while I was at the dealership, they had the new 08 s2000 CR. Pretty nice lookin car. Not worth the 38k price tag that was on it. Took a couple pictures of it with the camera phone.

Well I got a call back from corporate. I am PISSED the FU#K off! The dealership took apart the tranny, took 30 pictures of the car. They said the housing was covered in metal shards. The gears (3rd/4th) were rounded off and there was hot spots on the pressure plates. They are saying that b/c they have already changed the synchro's once in the car, that the issue is with my driving style.

Their solution...give me a % discount off the price to fix everything that is needed to be fixed.

I am not accepting this offer. I have printed out alot of info from this website, 8th gen website, and edmunds. I have also printed off the online petition they have for the 3rd gear issue. I will presenting this to the service manager at Honda when I go and talk to him. I will try to kill him with niceness and if what he says doesn't please me, I am going to move up within the local dealership. If I have to talk to the owner, then so be it.

And if that doesn't work. I will have them put my tranny back together and PRAY they come out with a service bulliten regarding this issue. If that doesn't come out, I will be trading the car in for something else.

I'm pissed.
