replacing my clutch... FUN STUFF!
ok, so... i burnt my clutch out after i replaced my pedal bracket. turns out, i didnt adjust the clutch cable when i replaced the son of a bitch and ive been running my engine at full speed the whole time with a clutch thats not fully disengaging. funderific. awesome. SO, im under my car last night trying to figure out what i need to unbolt, take off and remove to get at this bastard, when i hear from an unnamed source, that all i have to do is unbolt the transaxle case from the the rest of the transmission and i should just be able to get a the clutch that way. so, the "rest of it" is the FLYWHEEL CASE, the part that has what i need to get at inside. just to dispel any myths and misgivings, and i think im on the right track here in saying i have to take the long route and follow the manual, but 1) can i just take off teh tranaxle case to access the clutch...-_- and 2) what other way is there to access the clutch? just yeah. so. thanks
are you joking? if not then your friend must not like you! the clutch is inhoused between the tranny and the block. by seperating the bell housing (i believe thats what your reffering to) your not even going to see the clutch, your just going to expose the gears and possibly fudge up the seal and screw things up. just remove the whole tranny, it shouldnt be that difficult at all, especially if you have a stock trans and motor <--(b-series motors and trannys dont help much in the room dept.)

Actually, B-series is not too bad. You just let the engine tilt down toward the passenger side so that the tail of the transmission clears the frame rail AND remove the passenger side radius rod. In ANY ase, it is nowhere even CLOSE to being as difficult as pulling a RWD transmission.

I dunno about that, I just changed my clutch on my RSX last weekend and it was a bitch to get it out. Dropping the subframe? jesus...
I changed out my entire transmission on my old camaro in half the time.
Either way, pulling a tranny sucks, but its better to do things THE RIGHT WAY than to take shady shortcuts.

I just got done replacing the transmission on my brother's 240SX. It was my first RWD transmission. And that job was HELL! Not having access to the top of the transmission makes things EXTREMELY difficult, as does just the general tightness of space. I'm not a small guy. And I just don't fit well under a car with a transmission right there. The job was also made VERY difficult by the fact that there wasn't quite enough room for the transmission to clear the tunnel to make the stab without getting the transmission and engine in some REALLY funky angles. Yes, you don't have to do as much 'busy' work to replace a RWD transmission as a FWD transmission (ie unbolting the suspension to remove the axles, etc). But I would MUCH rather have to do some 'busy' work than have to try to coax that transmission to mate properly with the engine while having to work in VERY cramped quarters. Bottom line? I hope I NEVER have to do a RWD transmission EVER again.
