1990 honda accord ex hard starting when cold
Recently replaced my dist, plugs, wires, alt trying to fix this problem . My problem is that when the car is cold and i try to start it it turns over but only fires every so often. And ends up flooding. I can smell gas like crazy. after 10 or 15 minutes of turning it over(with the help of a jump start of course) It finally starts. Since this problem has been happening the car idles rough from time to time. Getting frustrated not knowing if my car is going to start from day to day. Please help me!!!!!!!!
well when it does start it idles rough because it's trying to expell all that gas you have been flooding it with..I hope you dont pump the pedal? it is FI! lol...have you checked your starter? battery? miles on motorz/
Air filter is new. I know its f.i and i dont pump it but i hold down the pedel to shut off the injectors. I am assuming the starter is ok because it starts fine when the car is warm or in the garage> 97000 miles on engine
First thing I'd suggest is to pull off the vacum hose to the FPR and see if there is raw gas in it.
Secondly; when cranking the engine and you think it might be flooding, hold the gas pedal to the floor; WOT will be seen by the ECU and it will shut off the injector pulse. That should help to clear the cylinders..
Another trick is to turn the key on and wait till the CEL goes off, that allows full pressure on the fuel rail and the injector sprays out a fine, easy to ignite mist as opposed to a low pressure dribble.
I've seen lots of cold start flooding problems caused by those Bosch "needletip" spark plugs.
